21st Century Charter School @ Gary is a tuition-free, public charter school that serves students in grades K-12. Our dedicated faculty and staff are committed to providing an outstanding education for the students each day as they transition from elementary to middle school to high school and COLLEGE. We are committed to providing our students with instruction that is standards-based and challenging, that meets the needs of each individual student enrolled. By meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of our students, we help to prepare them for a bright future as we firmly believe that “through our doors walk college graduates”. Through our partnership with Ivy Tech Community College our students will be able to take dual credit courses with the opportunity to earn college credit; all at no cost to the student. Students who attend 21st Century Charter School will graduate with a Core-40 High School diploma and up to 60 college credits and their Associate degree.

OVERVIEW:

The Food Service Manager will work with the contracted food service vendor to oversee and coordinate their individual school’s food service program under the regulations established by the USDA.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Knowledgeable of the National School Lunch Program’s rules, regulations, and reporting.
• Familiar with health codes and sanitary principals including HACCP.
• Maintain high standards for food service, safety, sanitation, and training.
• Participate in the planning of meal and snack menus with contracted food service vendor, principals, and regional teams in accordance with posted menus and nutrition regulations.
• Maintain accurate food count records and reports as established by the Department of Education and USDA.
• Keeps kitchen, including appliances, cabinets, and all inventory, organized and clean. 
• Works with food service vendor to analyze operational problems, such as theft and wastage, and establish procedures to alleviate these problems.
• Maintains an effective working relationship with school faculty, staff, and students.
• Develop equipment maintenance schedules and arrange for repairs.
• Understands, follows, and gives oral and written directions.
• Ensures cash drawer is in balance with food service vendor and office manager.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Stand for long lengths of time
• Lift up to 40 pounds.
• Stock deliveries and keep the area free of obstacles.
• Sweep floors.
• Ability to break down boxes and carry trash to dumpster.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Room temperature may be warm when the ovens are working.
• May be noisy during meals due to heavy student traffic.

 JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma or the equivalent preferred.
• Two years (2) experience in food service preferred.
• Current ServSafe Manager Certificate within 3 months of hire date.
• Knowledge of computer, cash register, and/or food processing machinery as related to specific job functions preferred.
• Successful completion of background check.
