This position is a job rotation anticipated to last 6 months, though may be extended or decreased due to business need. This rotation available for current regular status employees of the Oregon Department of Corrections or Oregon Corrections Enterprises with their current manager's approval.
In this role you will be responsible for administering, directing, managing, and coordinating statewide food service operations for the Oregon Department of Corrections.
This position serves as the department’s principal advisor on food service operations and issues, providing subject-matter expertise and strategic guidance to food service management, superintendents, administrators, and executive leadership.
You will oversee institutional food service expenditures, provides input on funding needs and cost considerations for budget development, and keep leadership informed of operational risks, trends, and emerging issues.
In this role, you will provide input to superintendents or their designees regarding Food Service Managers’ performance evaluations and participates in the hiring and selection process for Food Service Manager positions.
You will serve as a the supervisor for the Division’s dietitian, ensuring menu certification is maintained in accordance with the operations manual and applicable state rules and regulations, and provide recommendations to the Operations Budget and Policy Administrator regarding program improvements and operational matters related to food services.
This position coordinates and conducts health and safety inspection programs, including annual kitchen audits, in accordance with DOC policy. You will also serve as the department’s food service expert in support of the Fiscal Services Procurement Section, providing technical guidance and ensuring compliance with established procurement policies and procedures.
This position is management services and may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.
Six (6) years of supervision, management, or progressively related experience;
OR
three (3) years of related experience and a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
General knowledge of personnel practices and current collective bargaining agreements; DAS and DOC purchasing rules and procedures; food service operations including menu planning, market conditions, and nutritional requirements; personal computer skills, with intense skill in operating and understanding the department’s financial management systems; skills in written and oral communication; ability to coordinate and facilitate special projects; ability to complete necessary tasks in a timely manner with emphasis on thoroughness; ability to place customer service ahead of personalities; and ability to extract the maximum production from employees through quality management techniques.
Occasionally exposed to high noise levels, extreme temperature changes, hostile work environment including angry AICs, potential for staff injury is high, may be exposed to harmful chemicals, and subjected to other hazards associated in accomplishment of temporary duties at minimum, medium and maximum-security facilities.
May be required to periodically work extended hours.
This position is based at DOC Headquarters. In-office work is required, with the potential for a hybrid work schedule. Regular travel to DOC facilities statewide is required and may include overnight stays.

The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.95%.
