Position: Food Services Coordinator 

House/Week: Full Time 36 hours/week  

Compensation: $20.00/hr.

At YWCA Utah, we know that food is more than fuel—it’s comfort, care, and community. As our Food Services Coordinator, you’ll be right at the center of that mission, preparing meals that nourish and uplift the women, children, and families we serve each day. This isn’t
just about following recipes—it’s about bringing consistency, creativity, and compassion to the kitchen. 

In this hands-on role, you’ll take the lead on daily food prep, keep our kitchen running smoothly using smart systems like FIFO, and support a safe, clean, and organized environment. You’ll work closely with a team, help set the pace, and make sure every meal meets our high standards for quality and care. You’ll also flex your time-management skills, lift supplies when needed, and use your attention to detail to make sure we stay efficient—especially if you have experience with tools like “My Food Program.”

Schedule and role rhythm 

The Food Services Coordinator works a consistent schedule that supports our shelter participants as well as our childcare center: 

• Wednesdays-Fridays: 10:00 AM-7:00 PM 

• Saturdays: 8:30-5:30 

• Sundays-Tuesdays off 

Key Skills and Preferred Qualifications: 

• Food preparation 

• FIFO (first in, first out)
  and organizing 

• Time management and task prioritization 

• Attention to detail and consistency 

• Clear communication and team support 

• Collaborative approach to working with staff across different departments 

• Physical stamina and ability to work on foot/lift supplies up to 40 pounds. 

• Kitchen safety and sanitation practices 

• Familiarity with “My Food Program” or other food tracking software is a plus 

• Ability to work one weekend day each week, with flexibility as needed. 

• A respectful, empathetic approach to working with individuals who have experienced trauma. 

• Have or be willing to obtain a Food Handler’s permit.  

• Bilingual in Spanish and English (or another language commonly spoken by the community we serve) is a plus. 

Work Environment: 

This position is physically active and takes place in a busy kitchen setting. It may require handling large food deliveries, managing multiple prep tasks simultaneously, and maintaining a clean, efficient workspace.
This role requires standing for long periods, lifting up to 40 pounds, and working in both kitchen and storage environments. Occasional evening or holiday work may be to support special events or programming.
Candidates must demonstrate professionalism and empathy in interactions with shelter participants, understanding the impact of trauma on behavior and communication.
