INTRODUCTION:
The Food Sovereignty Program Assistant is dedicated to advancing Food Sovereignty for the Siletz Tribal population. Collaborating closely with Tribal members, community partnerships, internal and external stakeholders, and various committees, they assist with the delivery of culturally congruent health-preventive services on the Siletz Clinic Farm property and surrounding landscapes. This position provides administrative support services for the Food Sovereignty Program and contributes to the development and communication of opportunities provided by the program within the Clinic service area.
DUTIES:
REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or GED. One year of financial record keeping –AND- one year experience in community engagement programming –OR- one year of clerical experience –OR- an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of:
Computers, office equipment, digital camera and video equipment, word processing, email, spreadsheet applications, and internet research.
Traditional foods, protections for sensitive habitats, and food sovereignty issues.
Best practices in gardening and land restoration.
Experience in:
Working with indigenous/native communities.
Using Microsoft Office applications (word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software).
Record keeping, progress reporting, and budget management.
Developing and implementing programming events and partnerships with a focus on community engagement.
Ability to:
Demonstrate strong communication skills—written, verbal, and in one-on-one interactions—and be comfortable working in/with diverse groups of people, including Tribal members, Tribal elders and the general public.
Be highly organized, able to work independently, and make accurate judgement of community values for program and resource development.
Perform physical work required for event organization, education demonstration, and general garden maintenance.
