Job Description - Forensic Litigation & Valuation Services Associate

Whitley Penn, a leading CPA and consulting firm, is looking for a Forensic, Litigation, & Valuation Services (FLVS) Associate to join our team. Our FLVS department offers a full range of litigation support services, specializing in helping attorneys and their clients understand and resolve complex financial issues related to tracing and characterization of marital property, business valuations, damages and lost profits calculations, forensic accounting, trust accounting, and other issues arising in a wide range of business disputes.

Job Specifics:



  • Classification: Full-time; Exempt

  • Department: Forensic, Litigation, & Valuation Services

  • Location: Fort Worth, TX

  • Office Expectations/Hours: Fully in-office position; general work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8 hours/day between 8am to 5pm with overtime, as needed


What Will You Do? 



  • Assist with forensic accounting, litigation support, and business valuation engagements, primarily related to marital property, divorce-related financial issues, business disputes, and other investigations and valuations for litigation-related purposes.

  • Organize, review, and summarize documents produced by clients.

  • Prepare document request lists.

  • Research relevant information including property records, entity filings, and industry data.

  • Analyze, understand, and schedule financial and/or tax return information.

  • Identify ownership, understand complex entity structures, and prepare organizational charts.

  • Assist with deposition questions, mediation and trial strategies, and hearing/trial exhibits.

  • Apply critical thinking skills to identify, understand, and explain issues related to financial disputes.

  • Exercise strong analytical skills and attention to small details and be able to effectively communicate the analysis conducted.

  • Attempt to work through issues encountered in assignments by researching the issue at hand, identifying solutions, and communicating the issue and the solution to the seniors, directors, or partners.

  • Ensure all the documents are reviewed and the relevant facts are given to the testifying expert.

  • Attend client meetings with partners and managers to determine scope of engagement and client expectations.


What Do You Need to Get Here? 



  • 0-2 years of experience in public accounting, demonstrating a progression in complexity, scope, and number of engagement assignments.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting. Other degrees may be considered. An advanced degree in a related field is a plus.

  • CPA license or similar accounting-related license or working toward eligibility to obtain a certification or license.

  • Professional written and oral communication skills to interact with team members, clients, attorneys, and referral sources both internally and externally.

  • Proficiency in use of technology and software tools, including Microsoft Office programs.

  • Skills in financial and accounting modeling and use of tools.

  • Skills in managing multiple projects with different deadlines.

  • Desire to continually learn and gain knowledge.
