Job Description - Forensics Head Coach


Job Title: Forensics Head Coach

Position Type: Faculty, Exempt, Part-time

Typical Hours: Two afterschool hours per week with approximately six weekend tournaments/season

Reports to: Upper School Division Head

Salary Range: $10,000 Stipend

Your Role
The Bear Creek School is currently seeking to add a Head Coach for the Forensics Team. As a member of The Bear Creek School, you will join a vibrant preschool–grade 12 community fully committed to the mission of the school. In this role, you will lead and develop a competitive academic team that fosters student growth in communication, critical thinking, and character within a supportive and structured environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Register and prepare students for local, regional, and national tournaments
  • Recruit, manage, and train all coaches and judges
  • Work with other internal departments (facilities, transportation, calendar manager, etc.) to secure logistics and resources for the team, e.g., practice space and buses
  • Serve as main point-of-contact for the annual Grizzlies Forensics Tournament
  • Show flexibility and understanding while working with students and families from a variety of circumstances and commitment levels
  • Partner with families and stakeholders regarding season progress, logistics, and tournament status and forward tournament results to the Communications office for Bear Facts e-newsletter and PR/website publication
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other programs to reduce conflicts, partnering with teachers regarding academic progress and with the Athletics and Fine Arts programs to balance student commitment load and potential conflicts with other extracurricular activities
  • Create systems to foster community, encourage healthy internal competition, maximize teamwork, and reduce intra-squad rivalry

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • None

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or extensive relevant experience required
  • Experience in an educational setting and/or teaching experience desired
  • Hold CPR/AED/First Aid certification (with epinephrine autoinjector supplement) or obtain certification within 90 days of employment start date
  • Currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer (sponsorship is not available for this position)

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times 
  • Work in a climate-controlled office with travel outdoors between buildings
