Freelance Photographer Wellcom x Christie’s

Locations: Rockefeller Center and Red Hook, Brooklyn

We are a busy and passionate team looking for an experienced and talented photographer to add to our freelance pool. In this role, you will work alongside our full-time and freelance teams to deliver elevated imagery of some of the most amazing art, artifacts, and collectibles in the world. This work is one hundred percent in our studios, and supported by the production and equipment teams.

As a Wellcom employee you will work at Christie's Auction House handling lot photography.

Christie’s auctions span more than 80 art and luxury categories, at price points ranging from $200 to over $100 million. In recent years, Christie’s has achieved the world record price for an artwork at auction (Leonardo da Vinci’s Salvador Mundi, 2017), for a single collection sale (the Collection of Peggy and David Rockefeller, 2018), and for a work by a living artist (Jeff Koons’ Rabbit, 2019), all photographed by our team.

Responsibilities

• Capture imagery that upholds the visual standards set forth by our client and our global style guides.


• Follow and adhere to the daily workflow to ensure all work per day is shot, appropriately named, backed up, uploaded, and accounted for in daily reporting.


• Maintain an open channel of communication with the production team and, where instructed, department members. 

Qualifications

• 7-10 years shooting in a studio environment, particularly still life and/or art reproduction.


• Mastery of studio lighting.  Please provide an updated portfolio.


• Advanced understanding of color management.


• Advanced working knowledge of Capture One and Adobe Suite.


• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment on tight deadlines without compromising capture quality or file management. 


• Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities.


• Strong Collaboration skills and ability to take feedback from production.


• Passion for art is a definite plus.


• Work hours are generally weekdays from 9am - 5pm, as mandated by the company to work alongside the unionized and dedicated art handling team. 

Location, depending on department/sale/lot will either be onsite at Christie's in Rockefeller Center or at Christie's Fine Art Storage in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
