Job Description - Fresh Merchandising and Category Coordinator - Room for Advancement

Description:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains a high level of customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Supports the co-op’s core values and aligns with the co-op’s code of customer service.
  • Assists Fresh Category Manager in pulling cost data, applying necessary pricing formulas, and confirming consistent and beneficial price points.
  • Receives costs data and calculates appropriate retail price points that maintain desired margin patterns.
  • Reviews current or past cost, margin, and price settings to verify consistent application of desired margin patterns.
  • Assists in sales growth by ensuring pricing is set within competitive standards.
  • Analyzes price points and margins; assesses application to confirm consistency in meeting performance and profit goals.
  • Attends meetings and contributes in strategizing ideal price points to maintain sales growth and margin goals.
  • Reviews invoices daily to verify pricing is set to accurately maintain margin goals.
  • Helps with sub-category reviews.
  • Enters, updates, and verifies pricing data in an existing internal database.
  • Reviews and verifies data entered into database to ensure accuracy.
  • Regularly generates file backups to ensure data is secure and protected.
  • Develops and maintains a positive relationship with Fresh department staff.
  • Works in conjunction with Café leadership at both stores to maintain costs, pricing and overall accuracy for Reciprofity and Chow Now accounts.
  • Handles confidential information and exercises discretion in its dissemination.
  • Assists with item forecasting, promotional planning and sales ads.
  • Remains abreast of the co-op’s progress in the areas of sales growth, pricing, and margin trends; regularly reviews and studies relevant files and spreadsheets.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • High School diploma or equivalent and prior experience in retail environment.
  • Basic understanding of the retail industry and its terms (or the ability to quickly learn) as relates to margin, retail costs, markups or markdowns, close outs, blended costs, invoicing, receiving, etc.
  • Solid understanding of marketing, merchandising, and sales.
  • Ability to handle and process sensitive information, exercise discretion, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to balance multiple business interests while maintaining professionalism.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills and a systematic and detail-oriented approach to tasks.
  • Ability to work quickly and to operate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, via phone, email, or in person.
  • Solid mathematical skills and the ability to apply them as pertains to developing pricing formulas or setting price points; the ability to learn and recall basic sum and multiplication formulas to produce a consistent pattern in pricing.
  • Proficient in computer and basic software, including MS Office Suite (especially Excel and Word).
  • Possesses alphanumeric data-entry skills.
  • Willingness and ability to aid the co-op in a variety of ways, including bagging, providing customer service, or providing Board support, as needed.
  • Flexible to develop professionally via attendance of conferences and classes.
  • Available to work weekends, as needed.

PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to walk back and forth between the administrative offices building and the store multiple times daily.
  • Flexible schedule that allows for occasional weekend work or conference trips.
