Role Overview
The Deli Bakery HMS (HMS = House Management System) Manager is a full-time, on-site position reporting to the Store Manager. The role is responsible for overseeing the Deli Bakery HMS department to meet store financial and sales goals, maintain high-quality products, and deliver excellent customer service.
Primary Purpose
Support store operations to achieve budgeted financial and operating results.
Build strong associate and customer relations, promoting Food Lion’s brand strategy and culture.
Maintain clear communication with management, associates, and the broader organization.
Key Responsibilities
Department Management: Hire, train, develop, and supervise department associates; conduct performance appraisals and provide ongoing training.
Labor & Productivity: Manage daily labor (expected live), coach associates to meet productivity targets, and ensure schedules support exceptional customer service.
Customer Service: Role model friendly, fast, and flexible service; use product knowledge to meet or exceed customer expectations.
Operations & Compliance: Ensure department appearance, quality, variety, workplace safety, food safety, and sanitation are consistently maintained.
Inventory & Ordering: Control expenses through proper ordering, care for supplies/equipment, and follow ordering, receiving, preparation, conditioning, and display guidelines.
Tools & Systems: Utilize company tools such as financial reports, ACIS (Average Cost Inventory System), scheduling, productivity, ordering (CAO), and business information systems.
Safety & Compliance: Observe and correct unsafe conditions; record and report accidents per company procedures.
Shrink Control: Monitor and account for inventory; coach associates to prevent losses.
Promotions & Materials: Ensure advertising and sales promotion materials for the Deli Bakery HMS are properly utilized.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Proficiency in computer operations and company systems.
Experience in food preparation (cookies, bread production) and bakery operations.
Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills.
Knowledge of food safety standards and inventory management.
Previous management experience in retail or food service is a plus.
Work Environment
On-site, full-time role in a retail grocery setting.
Requires standing, lifting, and operating equipment such as a pallet jack.
Fast-paced environment with emphasis on customer service, safety, and operational efficiency.
This role is critical to maintaining the quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction of the Deli Bakery HMS department while supporting the overall store’s performance goals.
