Job summary:
Serve food for residents in the Dining Room of Riga. Set tables with clean dishes and silverware, arrange sugar, salt, and pepper shakers. Places meals before the residents in a timely manner. Is required to work in the dish room for placement of dishes. It is required to learn tray service for the units and execute tray line. Maintains general cleanliness of the Dining Room. May prepare simple salads and dessert. Vacuuming of the Riga Dining Room after meal service.

Responsibilities:
Serving and handling food in accordance with sanitary regulations. Cleanliness of tables and dining room. Promptness and accuracy of service. Careful handling of silver and glassware.
Physical Demands:
Has good emotional and mental health, emotionally stable and mature, walks, bends, stands and assists with lifting up to 25 pounds in food service and storage areas, pushing and pulling of service carts. Reaches above and below shoulder level. Kneeling for loading carts. Stretching and bending for vacuuming in the Dining Room. Full time position requires 37.50 – 40 hours and part time position is 20-35 hours a week.
Special Demands:
Ability to work under pressure during mealtimes and under conditions of frequent interruption. Courtesy and tact in dealing with residents. Has the ability to use initiative and good judgment in anticipating the needs of residents, and the ability to build and maintain good working relationships with dietary employees. May be asked to multi-task in a different job position when there is a call out or to fill in on the schedule. Must be available to work holidays and weekends in a rotation unless schedule otherwise requested.

Qualifications:
Education and Training:
High school or equivalent with ability to follow simple written and oral instructions.
Experience:
Some dietary experience in food service or health care is preferred.

The local community is within reasonable driving distance as traveling in inclement weather will be necessary. Kitchen workers and waitresses from hotels, restaurants, and health care facilities, etc.

Administrator, Director of Dietary

None.
Interrelationships:
Works with the Nursing and Recreation departments to provide services for special functions and accommodate special diets and sick trays.

Essential Duties:

Serve meals by carrying courses from the serving counter and placing dishes before the residents in the proper manner.
Providing exceptional customer service
Sets table with clean dishes, glassware, and silverware, according to the menu of the day.
Shows courtesy and respect for residents.
Shows courtesy and respect for co-workers.
Remove soiled dishes and silverware from tables at an appropriate time.
Keeps the tables, chairs, and floors of the Dining Room clean.
Prepare dessert in the appropriate manner.
Maintains safety and sanitation requirements.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Set up trays for resident meals.
Assists in washing dirty dishes and putting away the dishes.
Leaves all work areas and counters in a clean and orderly manner.
Cleans staff room as assigned.
Stocks satellite kitchens.
Assists residents with alternate menu choices.
Knows and follows therapeutic diets, consistencies, and dietary restrictions.
Maintains resident diet override forms for the Dietician and follows side-work forms.
Adheres to designated break times
Wears appropriate clean and pressed uniform; black slacks, Grey Polos that are provided, black shoes, name tag, hair restrained.

Non-Essential Duties:

Any other task assigned by the Administrator, Director of Dining Services
It is required to complete fourteen RELIAS in-services per year and any in-services pertaining to the Dietary Department and Food Safety per the Director.
Is required to attend all Four Quarterly Staff Meetings.
May sit on committees as necessary.
Ability to follow infection control procedures.
Observes all facility policies pertaining to HIPAA.
Observes all facility policies pertaining to Corporate Compliance.

Working Environment:
Works in a clean, well-ventilated, and well-lit kitchen. Employees must be able to withstand heat while working around stoves and ovens, and changes in temperature when going in and out of refrigerated or deep freeze areas. Must be cautious while working with kitchen equipment to avoid cuts and burns and while working on wet and slippery floors to avoid falls.

Tour of Duty:
Hours vary according to staffing needs and provide proper coverage of all three (3) meals. Works weekends and holidays.
