Schedule: Monday to Friday 7 am to 3:30 pm AND WEEKENDS BASED ON ROTATION SCHEDULE


Salary: $19 per hour


JOB SUMMARY


The Farm Production Technician I is responsible for supporting smooth farm operations. The role will ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of farm facilities and oversee livestock production with a focus on optimal animal welfare throughout all stages of production. Fundamental to this role is understanding and promoting the Quality System, adhering to company policies and procedures, and actively supporting the company's principles and values.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Feed rabbits daily according to prescribed schedule.
Ensure rabbits have constant access to food and water.
Record mortality data on a daily basis.
Identify sick or injured rabbits, and euthanize rabbits when necessary.
Be aware and knowledgeable of surroundings at all times in order to identify potential issues.
Prepare, place, and maintain nest boxes.
Check ventilation and lighting systems to ensure proper function on a daily basis.
Maintain USDA compliance.
Conduct maintenance on rabbit houses, cages, and watering systems as needed.
Follow strict schedules to maintain livestock production and facility cleanliness.
Maintain high standards of animal welfare, and a clean, safe work environment.
Utilize proper biosecurity standards when entering and exiting houses.
Conduct an overall inspection and inspection of BRC rabbits.
Participate in research trials or experiments.
Weigh and transport rabbits.
Responsible for creating daily records.
Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) required to safely accomplish work tasks.
Operate a tractor, mower, weed eater, and other equipment to maintain grounds.
Responsible for informing management of potential process or documentation issues.
Comply with Pel-Freez, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration policies and procedures, food safety standards, general safety, animal welfare, and good manufacturing practices.
Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
Perform other duties as requested.


Based on the essential duties listed above, this position is considered safety-sensitive and therefore all work must be performed following quality standards and established safety procedures.


EDUCATION & RELATED EXPERIENCE


A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
Bachelor's degree in animal science, animal husbandry, or a related major is required.
Previous work experience in livestock production is preferred.
Ability to pass a Fitness for Duty Test provided by the company.
A valid driver's license and the ability to be covered under the Company's automobile insurance is required.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


Knowledge and understanding of safety procedures and industry regulations and guidelines required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
A basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical processes, procedures, and applications.
Familiarity with animal health and welfare is preferred.
An ability to be precise and thorough, ensuring that no small elements are overlooked, and maintain a high standard of accuracy in one's work.
An individual capable of safely and efficiently operating company equipment and vehicles.
A responsible, self-managed individual with the ability to remain attuned to assigned work tasks.
Flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work both independently and alongside all levels of internal management and staff.
The ability to follow instructions, learn the production process, and complete production paperwork.
The ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
The ability to understand and comply with all company policies and procedures, and all applicable state and federal laws.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES AND INTERACTIONS WITH OTHERS


The Farm Production Technician I has no supervisory responsibilities. However, the role will be expected to frequently interact with co-workers, management, and the general public.
