Job Summary:

Associated Nephrology Consultants in Maplewood is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to join our nephrology practice. This gap year opportunity offers a chance to gain hands-on experience in a clinical setting while providing compassionate care to patients. The ideal candidate will have experience in phlebotomy and will interact with patients in an enthusiastic, courteous, and professional manner.

As a Medical Assistant, you will play a key role in assisting physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in the delivery of patient care. Your primary responsibilities will include taking vitals, performing phlebotomy, assisting with patient exams, managing medical records, and performing various administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the clinic.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assist physicians and nurses in patient examinations and treatments, ensuring patient comfort and privacy.


• Obtain and record vital signs, medical history, and chief complaints accurately.


• Prepare examination rooms, ensuring they are clean and equipped with necessary supplies.


• Perform clinical procedures such as venipuncture, lab draws, and urine sample collection in adherence to safety protocols.


• Collect, process, and document laboratory specimens, ensuring proper labeling and accurate records.


• Fax lab results to designated providers and mail lab results to patients as directed.


• Manage patient flow and maintain accurate patient records, updating histories as required.


• Scan external records, such as lab results and general orders, into the patient's chart.


• Perform administrative duties, including managing medical records and answering/triaging calls.


• Assist with inventory management, including placing orders for medical and cleaning supplies.


• Ensure strict adherence to HIPAA guidelines and patient confidentiality.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a Medical Assistant program preferred.


• Certification as a Medical Assistant is a plus.


• Previous experience in a clinical or healthcare setting is highly desirable.


• Proficiency in medical terminology and basic clinical procedures.


• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective patient interaction.


• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.


• Attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining medical records.


• Basic computer skills, including proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.


• Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and procedures.


• Ability to work independently as well as part of a healthcare team.
