Gas Mechanic

Under indirect and intermittent supervision, usually under the direction of a Gas Mechanic Leader and at times to work alone or with other job classifications; to do any and all of the work connected with the construction, operation, operation and maintenance of the gas distribution system; to deliver, install, repair, move or remove gas piping, services, mains, meters, regulators, recorders controls and other equipment; to drive, operate and be responsible for various trucks, vehicles and equipment and to maintain a stock of tools, parts and materials to perform any of the duties of a Gas Mechanic and to perform similar and less skilled work as required.

As a condition of acceptance on this job, candidates who are otherwise qualified will be required to take and pass the appropriate State/Federal driver's licensing requirements, medical testing and drug screening.

Duties include operating heavy equipment such as backhoes, trenchers and jackhammers, assembling and installing gas meters, installing leak clamps, and other duties as assigned.

This position includes performance of DOT-covered safety sensitive functions.

REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent required.  Related experience preferred which includes use of backhoes, trenchers, jackhammers, and hand tools.

                                            
Must pass pre-employment testing associated with this position.

Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Drivers License.  If an individual does not possess a Class A CDL, the Company will provide training to obtain one.  However, an individual must possess a Class A CDL Permit that includes combination vehicle and air brakes prior to employment. 
 

Must live within 25 miles of the Alton Operating Center, 700 Oakwood, Alton, IL 62002-5238 .
