Position Overview

The GED Science Instructor will be responsible for educating students in this content area. With the support of our Special Education Department, the GED Science Instructor will also support students with special learning or emotional needs to ensure that they receive the level of instruction that they need to enable them to succeed. Individualized Education Program (IEP) case management and coordination will be part of this employee’s responsibility, with the support of Special Education staff.

Responsibilities

• Deliver GED Science curriculum in both in-person and virtual settings to ensure basic proficiency to prepare students for promotion to the GED course
• Contribute to IEP meetings and students with special needs when needed
• Assess individual learning styles and adapt teaching methods to fit, creating lesson plans for differentiated instruction
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings for all students

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education or a relevant field (required)
• Two (2) years of teaching experience in alternative education settings (preferred)
• At least one (1) year of experience teaching online
• Experience working with opportunity youth and/or young adults
• Familiarity with research-based instructional strategies
