Job Description - General Clerk III

Location(s): McAllen, TX
Position Type: Full-Time, On-Site
Clearance: Public Trust (SF-85P+PS)
Period of Performance: Starting June 17, 2025



Overview:
Support the operations of the U.S. Attorney’s Office – Southern District of Texas as a General Clerk III. This clerical role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong communication skills and the ability to manage administrative and receptionist duties in a legal office environment.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Serve as a receptionist and first point of contact for visitors and phone calls

  • Monitor facility access and enforce administrative regulations using CCTV

  • Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, including mail, packages, emails, and faxes

  • Assist with travel logistics for litigation staff and witnesses

  • Maintain files, open/close case files, and support legal staff with case management

  • Communicate updates on court dockets and schedules to relevant staff

  • Maintain and track government vehicle use logs and receipts

  • Participate in records inventory and excess property submission

  • Prepare a variety of documents using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook



Required Qualifications:



  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple clerical duties with accuracy and professionalism

  • Experience working in a legal or federal office setting preferred



Additional Information:



  • This position requires U.S. Citizenship and successful completion of a background investigation

  • Must meet DOJ Residency Requirements
