General Definition of Work
The primary purpose of this position is to provide general clinic walk-in services to include immunizations, pregnancy tests, TB skin tests and pharmacy services. This position is responsible for the annual immunization process using the North Carolina Immunization Registry to include tracking and follow up of all children in Pender County who are not current on immunizations.

Essential Functions
Serve as Program Coordinator for the Immunization Program. Review and update program policy and procedures manual annually and as needed with assistance of the Nursing Supervisor.
Serve as a resource for immunization information for other disciplines working in the clinic.
Administer vaccines to walk-in children and adults seen in General Clinic and report any adverse reactions related to immunizations. Document immunizations in the North Carolina Immunization Registry (NCIR).
Administer and read TB skin tests.
Complete the TB Epidemiology form for all positive TB skin tests when the Communicable Disease Nurse is not available.
Give pregnancy urine tests results. Provide non-directive counseling based on test results per standing order.
Administer various injections, such as Haldol, and allergy injections to patients with a physician's order.
Dispense medications and prenatal vitamins from pharmacy per written orders or standing orders with appropriate counseling and instructions for follow-up.
Accurately complete all required documentation in patients' electronic health record.
Triage patients when DON and Nursing Supervisor are unavailable and use nursing judgment as to severity of patient's condition and the need for immediate attention.
Maintain immunization supplies inventory and order supplies when needed.
Inventory vaccine at least monthly and reconcile with the NCIR inventory. Ensure that vaccine is rotated and the vaccines with the earliest dates are used first.
Monitor vaccine stock and maintain adequate inventory for all clinics. Order state vaccine at least every two months and private pay vaccine as needed.
Perform monthly immunization assessments through the NCIR and/or CoCasa to track and follow up all children 24 to 36 months of age who are not up-to-date on immunizations.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Nursing Supervisor or DON as necessary to provide effective public health services.
Participate in medical record audit reviews, staffing disaster shelters, educational in-service programs, professional development and training exercises.
Maintain supplies for the emergency cart, oxygen tank and AED in adequate amounts and within current expiration dates. Ensure oxygen tank is full.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education & Experience
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. Degree in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation and one year experience in Public Health Nursing; or graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and two years of professional nursing experience one of which must have been in public health; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
This position is a safety sensitive position and subject to random substance abuse testing in accordance with the Pender County Personnel Policy and Risk Policy.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires standing and occasionally requires walking, sitting, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
