General Maintenance Tech

Description

Essential Tasks: 

• Perform various facility related general maintenance tasks as directed. To include but not limited to, mowing, trimming, plowing, hauling materials, operating equipment, provide support for various departments as needed, etc. 
• Perform basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc. installation and repairs. 
• Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. 
• Preserve all records as required by Marshall Farms and other regulatory agencies. 
• Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous. 
• Follow and promote all safety polices for safe work environment for everyone. 
• Always maintain a clean work area and encourage others to do the same

Requirements

Education: 

· Education/experience that demonstrates proficiency in principles and practices of general maintenance. 

· Requires valid NYS driver’s license and CDL-B level is preferred.

Competency Requirements: 

· Capable of effectively, consistently, and efficiently performing essential tasks daily. 

· Ability to work with others and independently. · Basic mechanical, electrical, construction, and general maintenance abilities. 

· Ability to safely drive various types of vehicles and equipment including manual, automatic, hydrostatic, or other types of transmissions. 

· Must be capable of safely driving and backing up large vehicles and equipment with trailers or implements attached around obstacles or in and out of buildings.

Work Conditions & Special Requirements

Work Conditions: 

· Work completed both indoors and out at new construction, existing sites and all property owned by Marshall Farms and its subsidiaries. 

· Individuals may be subject to inclement weather conditions when working outdoors. 

· Conditions inside animal buildings are often hot, humid, dusty and dirty including manure. 

· The work area may have a high level of noise requiring earplugs. 

· Duties are performed primarily on 1st shift with varying extended hours including occasional weekend work with a requirement to be on call, when needed. 

· Out of town travel to other facilities may be required for multiple days which may involve overnight stay near the local facility. 

· Must be clean-shaven or willing to shave at a moment’s notice to properly wear a respirator / N95 mask if needed. 

· Required to adhere to Barrier Affidavit requirements (flu shot).

Physical Requirement: 

· Considerable use of arms and legs including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and handling of materials. 

· Work may be strenuous at times and include lifting heavy objects, standing, stooping, and kneeling for long periods. 

· This position requires manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

Mental Requirement: 

· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 

· Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and various levels of management if needed. 

· Ability to apply problem-solving skills and know when something is beyond one’s capabilities and request help from other qualified employees when needed.

Paygrade for this position is an F2 with an hourly pay range of $17.40-$25.34.
