Job Description - General Manager



Blue Kangaroo PACKOUTZ is the trusted name for comprehensive contents, furniture, art, and document restoration services. Clients seek out Blue Kangaroo PACKOUTZ after fire, water, mold, or other damage—it’s a very sensitive situation they’re facing, so we work hard to make the restoration process seamless and stress-free.

At Blue Kangaroo Packoutz, we owe our success to the efficiency of our organizational processes. To help maintain and grow this standard the operations leader will oversee daily activities. The successful candidate will have a sharp business mind and proven success managing multiple departments toward maximum productivity. The ultimate responsibility is to increase our operational efficiency in the contents, cleaning, warehouse and delivery departments of the business. This is a key position that will be expected to attend a 10 day paid training to ensure excellence in operational expertise/procedures.

Pay: Salary Negotiable with incentive bonuses

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Oversee the inventory, packout, cleaning, vaulting, wrapping, staging, and pack back of documents/merchandise as part of the Contents Restoration process

  • Coordinate and oversee all warehouse logistics

  • Long-term planning to create initiatives that further the company’s overall goals

  • Coordinating different teams to foster exchange of ideas and provide cross-team learning opportunities

  • Assessing and analyzing departmental budgets to find ways to minimize expenses and optimize profits

  • Undertake job cost estimates utilizing Xactimate software system

  • Inspiring and motivating employees to perform at their best through positive encouragement and incentive initiatives

  • Communicating with the Owner about shifting company priorities and projects

  • Identifying potential problems and points of friction and working to find solutions to maximize efficiency and revenue

  • Identifying opportunities to expand or shift course to take advantage of changes in the market

  • Adjust staffing levels/schedules according to volume/priorities/holidays, etc.

  • Assure all Operations departments are fully staffed with proper, trained personnel

  • Responsible for the safety program including leading/participating in safety meetings.

  • Oversee the investigation and resolution of any inventory issues that arise (ie ensuring items scanned into our inventory software tracking system are accurate with appropriate documentation).

  • Conduct staff meetings on a regular basis.

  • Supervise all forklift operations; drive and maintain a forklift

  • Responsible for the 5S’s: sort, straighten, shine, standardize and sustain.



Note:  Specific objectives and performance standards for essential duties and responsibilities are established annually in a performance review document.

MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (including job titles of direct reports):
Under the direction of the Owner: provide input on promotions; establish work schedules; manage time and attendance; provide training including cross-training; assign, direct and review work; write and deliver performance reviews; and address performance/conduct issues through the corrective action process for the operations staff as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be able to identify product (consumables), usage, and disposal requirements with training 

  • Eligible to operate a motor vehicle per Blue Kangaroo Packoutz’s vehicle policy 

  • Possess a sense of urgency, professional demeanor, positive attitude, and strong work ethic 

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment 

  • Comprehensive understanding of customer service principles 



Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:  Demonstrated ability in planning and managing multiple projects, and in problem analysis and problem resolution.   Strong decision making and negotiating skills. Demonstrated leadership skills. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.  Strong customer orientation with excellent interpersonal communication skills. Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills. Knowledgeable in Word, Excel and computer operating systems such as iCAT and Xactamate.
