General Manager - Ready-Mix Concrete

SUMMARY:

The General Manager is responsible for leading and optimizing all operational aspects of the company’s concrete business in a specific market area. This executive role drives safety, production efficiency, cost control, quality, and profitability across multiple sites, including plants, and distribution operations. The General Manager partners closely with Company Ownership to execute strategic initiatives and ensure operational excellence across the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational Leadership

• People Management - Hiring, performance management, discipline, training, and development.
• Provide strategic direction and oversight for all concrete operations, including ready-mix plants, maintenance efforts, and logistics.
• Drive operational performance to meet or exceed production, cost, and quality targets.
• Standardize processes and implement best practices across all locations.
• Set systems in place, as needed, to ensure the operating company delivers on it’s P&L commitments, CapEx plans, investment goals and succession plans.

Safety & Environmental Compliance

• Champion a culture of safety and ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements (OSHA, environmental standards).
• Ensure the Company's safety programs and policies are in place and being followed.
• Lead initiatives to reduce incidents and improve overall safety performance.
• Ensure environmental stewardship and sustainability practices are integrated into operations.

Financial Performance

• Develop, manage and take ownership of operational budgets, capital expenditures, and cost-control initiatives.
• Analyze financial and operational metrics to drive profitability and efficiency.
• Partner with Company Ownership to forecast production, margins, and capital needs.

Production & Quality

• Oversee production planning and execution to meet customer demand.
• Ensure consistent product quality and adherence to specifications.
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce downtime.

Leadership & Talent Development

• Build, lead, and develop high-performing teams across Operations, Safety, Dispatch, QC and Sales.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Support succession planning and leadership development across the organization.

Customer & Market Focus

• Develop and maintain key customer relationships.
• Partner with sales and commercial teams to align production with customer needs.
• Support key customer relationships by ensuring reliable delivery and product quality.
• Monitor market trends and adjust operational strategies accordingly.

Capital Projects & Asset Management

• Oversee capital projects including plant upgrades, equipment investments, and expansions.
• Oversee fleet management, maintenance, utilization and replacement planning.
• Ensure effective maintenance programs to maximize asset life and reliability.
• Evaluate and implement new technologies to improve operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 10–15+ years of progressive operations leadership experience in aggregates, concrete, construction materials, or a related heavy industrial environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Business, preferred but not required in lieu of strong industry experience.
• Proven track record of leading multi-site operations with full P&L responsibility.
• Strong knowledge of ready-mix concrete, and logistics.
• Deep understanding of safety and environmental regulations OSHA).
• Demonstrated ability to drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and strategic thinking skills.
