Job Description - General Manager (Running)

Overview

The GM of Running is responsible for driving the growth, operations, and standardization of RunSquad nationwide. This
role blends marketing, partnerships, technology coordination, and coach development to scale our running community
and revenue. Unlike a traditional studio GM, this role manages the national running vertical - ensuring our systems, races,
events, and coaches deliver a best-in-class experience.

Key Responsibilities

Growth & Marketing

  • Work with the marketing team and affiliate partners to design and execute campaigns that drive lead generation and revenue growth.
  • Develop a 12-month national race calendar, identifying relevant races and planning RunSquad marketing events around them.
  • Coordinate activations and brand presence at targeted races to maximize exposure and signups.
  • Coordinate ‘new to running’ workshops and convert non-runners to running Squads.

Technology & Communication

  • Partner with the internal technology team to ensure the RunSquad sorting platform functions seamlessly, supporting smooth squad formation and member experience.
  • Monitor communication channels to ensure all GLM (group lead messages) are responded to within 12 hours.
  • Once RunSquad reaches 30 squads, a Virtual Assistant (VA) will be added to support this responsibility.
  • Work cross-functionally to improve internal systems for communication, onboarding, and member support.

Coach Development & Standards

  • Lead the creation of the RunSquad Coaches Certificate, ensuring a consistent and credible credentialing process.
  • Work with the Director of Training & Education to recruit and source top coaching talent nationally, regardless of geography.
  • Train new coaches and ensure ongoing compliance with RunSquad standards, developed in collaboration with The Athletic Clubs’ Head of Training.
  • Build and reinforce a culture of accountability, community, and excellence across the coaching network.
  • Ensure GMs conduct regular evaluations of Run Clubs to confirm member experience aligns with The Athletic Clubs’ Run Coaching Principles and standards, and that timely feedback is delivered to Run Coaches/Captains for continued development and consistency.

Run Clubs & Programs

  • Oversee the standard AC Run Club, ensuring each club has an appointed Captain to foster community and accountability.
  • Manage and expand the Marathon Training Program, delivering consistent quality and results for members preparing for major races.
  • Provide strategic and operational oversight of Stone 2 Stone, ensuring alignment with overall RunSquad growth and community impact.

Key Metrics for Success

  • Labor % of Revenue – Maintain ≤ 20% average.

  • Expansion and successful execution of the national race calendar.
  • Timely and professional communication response rates (≤ 12 hours).

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field (preferred).
  • Previous experience in an operations or revenue-driven leadership role. (preferred)
  • NASM-CPT or equivalent fitness certification (preferred).
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certified.
  • Full-time availability with flexibility for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
