Hourly Pay Range: $19.85 - $28.15

This position typically pays: $20/Hour based on education and experience

SUMMARY:

A generalist position with responsibility to provide case management services to individuals and small groups, assist with evaluation of client work aptitudes and potential within the vocational evaluation unit and in community assessments and prepare clients for job placement and retention by providing job coaching/training support and coordination of services with employment specialists.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Intake and Vocational Evaluation.
  • Interview clients to determine vocational goals, interests, work history, etc.
  • Reviews client handbook with clients.
  • Encourages good work habits geared to industrial standards.
  • Gives support and encouragement to clients when needed.
  • Reports client problems to referral source and other team members for remediation.
  • Administers work samples and tests to clients.
  • Selects appropriate tests to assess specific aptitudes, interests, performance, and behavior.
  • Advises clients in the correct use of tools and equipment for safe use.
  • Observes client at work to note vocational assets and limitations, physical, intellectual, and emotional problems which may affect work performance and potential.
  • Records test results and observations.
  • Prepares reports summarizing evaluation results and provides recommendations for services to meet client goals.
  • Consult with the assigned case manager, client, and/or employment specialist as requested to review results and recommendations.
  • Develops work samples as needed.
  • Analyzes assessment tools to meet the needs of the agency and clients.
  • Maintains statistical data to develop testing norms.

Case Management

  • Meets with the client to review work skills, job preferences, work behaviors, and realistic job goals incorporating evaluation results, client interest and choices, and relevant job market information.
  • With the client, identifies and makes plans to address barriers to employment that require accommodations including benefits analysis, skills building, academic remediation, referral to community resources, and/or alternative services in the community.
  • Develops Individual Employment Plan (IEP) with the client and reviews progress towards objectives. Makes referral to appropriate services including job searching skills – personal development groups, work preparation, and job placement services. 
  • Coordinates, schedules, and chairs all client conferences with funding sources ensures that client communication at meetings is a priority and that client understands all proceedings before signing forms of action plans including the release of information.
  • Prepares client through ongoing contact for job preparation demands and expectations.
  • Identifies independent living skills and socialization needs necessary to the client achieving integration in the community and refers to appropriate services.
  • Provides support and job follow-up services on an as-needed basis including job coaching during situational assessments, work preparation activities, at the start of CWE or job placement and/or job retention or retraining
  • Advocates for and teaches self-advocacy skills to the client to promote health, assertiveness, and involvement in the job process
  • Provides intervention as needed should crises arise and ensures clients' physical and emotional safety.
  • Provides ongoing feedback and facilitates communication between client and team to ensure client involvement and choice in progress towards individual vocational and employment goals.

Job Coaching

  • Assist with worker transportation as required, including the use of a personal vehicle.
  • Within specified timeframes provide the necessary training and support to assist workers in achieving their goals.
  • Compile and study occupational and economic information to aid individuals in carrying out vocational objectives.
  • Conduct on-site job analysis to determine if job requirements and work environment match client skills, needs, and vocational goals.
  • Train workers to perform their essential work tasks appropriately and productively, specific to the workplace, making necessary accommodations as needed.
  • Provide ongoing support, as needed, to ensure enhanced job performance and satisfaction.
  • Act as day-to-day liaison with the employer and coworkers to encourage integration into the workforce.
  • This may require the job coach to complete actual work tasks, as appropriate.
  • Perform other related essential duties as required or directed.

Administrative / Paperwork

  • Prepares and submits all necessary written client documentation of services including IEP, progress reports, social service entries, conference letters, and summaries to funding sources.
  • Enters and maintains client data and tracking for billing and outcome measurement.
  • Schedules, coordinates, and chairs client conference meetings and negotiates services/funding with referral sources.
  • Maintains client documentation for client case records, and attends records committee meetings.
  • Attends all necessary department and agency meetings.
  • Assists in the development of client training curriculum and work samples.
  • Provides caseload coverage for team case managers, work adjustment staff, evaluators, and job coaches as needed.
  • Accepts other tasks as assigned.
  • Follows all agency personnel policies and procedures and abides by professional code of ethics.
  • Demonstrates positive team member attitude and offers suggestions to improve services to clients.
  • Effectively communicates and models to all funding sources and constituency the values, vision and mission of Goodwill Industries of Rhode Island.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum Requirement: High School Diploma or G.E.D; plus three to five years related experience in the Human Services field, or a combination of education and related experience. Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in related field.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as client files, evaluation reports, job descriptions, personnel procedures and safety rules. Ability to write professional reports that are grammatically correct and easily understood for referral sources or others outside of the Agency. Ability to clearly communicate, in verbal and written form, client status, problems, or needs.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form. Ability to observe client behavior, relate it to task being performed and make recommendations for change or modification if necessary. Ability to assist workers with appropriate social behavior to facilitate integration and inclusion. Ability to act as an advocate for workers.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Job responsibilities require use of personal vehicle. Valid Rhode Island driver license. Clean driving record and valid, current registration and automobile insurance must also be maintained.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to obtain approved CPR and First Aid certification within 3 months from date of hire
  • Other duties as assigned or as directed
