Description

This role helps facilitate genetic testing, patient scheduling, documentation, insurance authorization, and communication with laboratories while maintaining accurate patient records.

This position is grant funded. 

This position requires a level II background check.



Responsibilities

•    Schedule patient appointments and coordinate clinic calendars. 
•    Obtain and organize medical records, family histories, and laboratory reports. 
•    Prepare patient charts for genetic counseling appointments. 
•    Assist with genetic testing coordination, including test ordering, specimen tracking, and result management. 
•    Communicate with patients regarding appointment details, testing logistics, and follow-up instructions. 
•    Coordinate with laboratories, healthcare providers, and insurance companies regarding test authorization and billing. 
•    Enter and maintain accurate patient information in the electronic health record 
•    Assist with prior authorizations and insurance verification for genetic testing. 
•    Prepare educational materials and resources for patients. 
•    Support quality improvement initiatives and departmental projects. 
•    Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and institutional policies. 
•    Perform general administrative duties such as filing, scanning, answering phones, and managing correspondence.



Qualifications

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with two years' experience in a position that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training (i.e. medical assistant or equivalent clinical training) may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Specific training/experience may be required depending upon the specialty area of the position.

Senate Bill 1310- The Florida Senate (https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2023/1310) is conditional upon meeting all employment eligibility requirements in the U.S.

 

SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements

 

A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed:

  • (a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree;
  • (b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree;
  • (c) Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree;
  • (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or
  • (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
  •  

Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment. 

 

Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.
