Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council (GSACPC), Inc. is a non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization serving more than 25,000 girls grades K-12. Our membership also includes over 11,000 adult volunteers who serve as leaders, trainers, consultants, and board members. GSACPC serves a vast jurisdictional area encompassing approximately 75,000 square miles of the state of Arizona (two-thirds of the state), serving girls in more than 90 communities, including Indian Reservations and military installations in central and northern Arizona. 

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Provide supervision, guidance, feedback, and support to program delivery site interns.
  • Plan and facilitate the program delivery site’s program activities.
  • Ensure the active involvement of the program delivery site’s participants in the overall program through the use small groups, girl planning input, and interest groups.
  • Participate in and contribute to the planning of program delivery site and all program activities. Promote the three processes:
    • Girl Led
    • Learn by doing
    • Cooperative Learning.
  • Participate in and contribute to the planning of program delivery site and all camp activities.
  • Supervise all assigned aspects of the participants’ day including, onsite program, meal times and delivery site clean-up.
  • Develop program delivery site activity plans with participants as appropriate.
  • Guide participants in successful participation in all aspects of program activities; actively engage with participants and participate in all activities.
  • Instruct participants in established emergency procedures such as fire drills, site evacuation, etc.
  • Ensure that safe implementation of program and procedures are carried out by interns.
  • Ensure the maintenance of health and safety standards.
  • Communicate regularly with Program Coordinators regarding program delivery site issues.
  • Ensure the timely completion of all reports and records.
  • Recognize and respond to opportunities for onsite problem solving.
  • Support and promote participants and co-workers to take risks and seek challenges.
  • Participate in pre and post program inventory and general clean-up as assigned.
  • Minimum 21 years of age (specific to certain positions).
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (provided).
  • Ability to function as part of a team, following the guidelines of the Staff Working Agreement.
  • Ability to communicate and work with staff and participants of varying age and skill levels, and provide necessary instructions and support to staff and participants.
  • Cognitive and communication abilities to manage the multiple functions of a program site.
  • Knowledge of common participant illnesses and proper sanitation in group living community.
  • Must have reliable transportation (specific to certain positions).
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn the Girl Scout program.
  • Attend monthly team meetings.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Desired Qualifications

  • Registered member of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.
  • Prior Girl Scout experience or willingness to learn Girl Scout program.
  • Experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • High School/GED, some college preferred.
  • Willingness to fully participate in staff development opportunities (when offered) and to take responsibility for self-directed continued education.
  • Bilingual English & Spanish (plus).
  • Ability to assist participants and staff in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, injury).
  • Ability to observe participant behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Ability to guide staff in handling or resolving difficult and challenging participant issues and behaviors.

Physical Abilities

  • Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of participants.
  • Ability to climb stairs.
  • Ability to work in the out-of-doors, exposed to a variety of weather conditions (heat, wind, rain, dust, and lightning).
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds without difficulty.
  • Must be able to sit at a computer terminal up to three hours at a time; must be able to stand for one to 2-1/2 hours per day.
