Job Description - Grant Accountant

Job Overview 


The Grant Accountant is responsible for the financial management, compliance, and reporting of grants, contracts, and restricted funding sources. This position ensures grant funds are properly tracked, documented, and expended in accordance with funder requirements, organizational policies, and applicable accounting standards. The Grant Accountant works closely with program and leadership teams to support sound financial stewardship and maximize organizational compliance.

  2. Financial Reporting Accuracy: Submitsgrant financial reports accurately and by required deadlines. 

  3. Budget Monitoring: Effectively tracks grant budgets andidentifies variances in a timely manner. 

  4. Audit Readiness: Maintainscomplete, organized, and audit-ready grant files with minimal corrections . 

  5. Internal Collaboration:
    Builds effective working relationships with program and leadership teams while providing responsive financial support.


 


Responsibilities 




    • Monitor grant expenditures and ensure budget compliance.

    • Track restricted and unrestricted funding.

    • Review and allocate expenses appropriately.

    • Maintain accurate grant records and documentation.

    • Prepare grant financial reports, invoices, and reimbursement requests.

    • Monitor grant budgets, spending, and funding balances.

    • Analyze budget variances and support forecasting.

    • Collaborate with program staff on financial performance and compliance.

    • Ensure adherence to grant requirements and organizational policies.

    • Maintain audit-ready files and support audits and funder reviews.

    • Assist with grant-related internal controls and process improvements.

    • Support organizational budgeting and financial planning.


    Required Experience, Qualifications and Skill 



    • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field . 



    • Minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience. 



    • Minimum of two (2) years of grant accounting, nonprofit accounting, or fund accounting experience preferred. 



    • Experience with government, foundation, corporate, and federally funded grants is highly desirable. 



    • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). 



    • Knowledge of grant management and nonprofit accounting practices. 



    • Understanding of restricted fund accounting and cost allocation methodologies. 



    • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software. 

    • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. 



    • Ability to manage multiple grants and deadlines simultaneously.
