The Post and Courier is looking for a reporter to cover the fast-paced business/retail/growth and development beat in Greenville, a city exploding with new people that's regularly named among the best places to live in the country.
Greenville is known for its high quality of life, with easy access to mountains from a bustling city with a shifting skyline. It's also the central point for all business dealings across the fast-growing Upstate region, home to 1.5 million people and the largest BMW factory in the world.
We're looking for a driven journalist who reports with authority and will establish themselves as the indispensable source for business and retail news. This person will be expected to break news, to look for the stories that will serve and inform the community — not wait for press releases to repackage. We want someone who is comfortable holding officials' and developers' feet to the fire on why a highly anticipated project isn't coming while also filing stories on the latest retail openings and closings.
The business beat is a key position in Greenville, routinely leading our newsroom in traffic, new subscriptions and engagement. So whether you want to leap from reporting for a small-town paper to covering a rapidly growing metro, are looking for a chance to flex your investigative skills or are ready for a new challenge after a couple of years on a different beat, this could be an excellent fit.
How the Charleston-based Post and Courier ended up in Greenville, some 200 miles inland, is a testament to our devotion to informing the public. The Pulitzer Prize-winning organization saw legacy papers withering amid massive mergers and consolidations, and the resulting layoffs.
Seeing that need, The Post and Courier expanded beyond its Lowcountry roots, opening and staffing offices across the state. It's now in Beaufort, Columbia, Florence, Greenville, Myrtle Beach, North Augusta, Rock Hill and Spartanburg.
This job makes you part of that network of award-winning journalists who are committed to shining a light on all corners of South Carolina.
