Job Description - Grief Counselor


Grief Counselor

Location: Nashville - (Hybrid)

Status: Part Time

Hours: 24/week Flexible Schedule ( Schedule examples: Mon/Wed (virtual)/Fri, 8 hr. days,  Tues/Wed (virtual) 10 hours, Fri 4 hr.)

SUMMARY

The Alive Hospice Grief Counselor provides grief counseling and bereavement support services to hospice patients, their families and the community at large.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provides counseling, in the office or via telehealth, for issues related to terminal illness, death or bereavement, to hospice patients, their families and others in the community.
  2. Provides bereavement counseling, via home visits, to Alive Hospice families, as needed.
  3. Completes documentation as part of client/patient records in a timely manner, and denoting their progress.
  4. Makes referrals to and/or activates other community resources on behalf of clients/patients when appropriate.
  5. Makes appropriate referrals to other community resources, as needed , for clients ineligible for Alive Hospice services.
  6. Facilitates care- giver and bereavement support groups, as requested by Director of the Grief Center, for Alive Hospice families and the community.
  7. Assists in training volunteers as requested by Director of the Grief Center.
  8. Provides educational presentations and information about Alive Hospice services, death, dying and bereavement issues for service providers, the educational community, congregations, businesses, other professionals, professional organizations and community service organizations.
  9. Describes bereavement services and provides crisis counseling to phone inquirers.
  10. Maximizes opportunities to enhance visibility of bereavement services within the agency and within the service area.
  11. Participates in special projects and other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Master's degree from an accredited School of Social Work or related field (i.e. counseling, psychology, etc). Minimum of one year of experience conducting individual, family, and/or group therapy in a mental health or counseling setting; supervised internship or practicum experience will be considered. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

 Current license in the State of Tennessee as an L.M.S.W., L.C.S.W., L.P.C., L.P.C./M.H.S.P., or L.M.F.T. preferred. Candidates who are pre-licensed and currently under an approved supervision plan to meet licensure requirements will also be considered. If required to drive to carry out the duties of this position: must maintain a current driver's license and automobile insurance as required by Tennessee State Law
