Grocery Store Night Manager

Maurer's Urban Market is looking for a dependable, motivated, and customer-focused Night Manager to oversee evening operations and ensure our store is fully prepared for the next business day. This role is ideal for an experienced retail, grocery, restaurant, or customer service leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys leading teams, solving problems, and maintaining high operational standards.

As the Manager on Duty (MOD) during assigned shifts, you will be responsible for supporting Team Members, delivering exceptional customer service, maintaining store standards, and ensuring all closing procedures are completed accurately, safely, and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the Manager on Duty during evening and closing shifts.


• Lead, coach, and support Team Members throughout the shift.


• Promote a positive, productive, and customer-focused work environment.


• Monitor attendance, breaks, and overall Team Member performance.


• Delegate responsibilities and follow up to ensure tasks are completed properly.


• Make sound decisions and resolve operational issues in the absence of senior management.


• Communicate important store updates, concerns, and opportunities to the Store Director and leadership team.


• Deliver outstanding customer service and ensure a positive shopping experience.


• Respond professionally to customer questions, concerns, and complaints.


• Assist Team Members in resolving customer issues while maintaining overall responsibility for store operations.


• Ensure all departments are recovered, faced, organized, and cleaned before closing.


• Verify shelves, displays, coolers, and sales areas are fully stocked and ready for business the next day.


• Monitor product quality, freshness, expiration dates, and merchandise rotation.


• Assist with stocking, merchandising, and operational tasks as needed.


• The Night Manager is ultimately responsible for ensuring the store is properly closed, secured, and prepared for the opening team.

What We're Looking For

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous grocery, retail, restaurant, or customer service leadership experience.


• Previous Manager on Duty (MOD) or closing management experience preferred.


• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.


• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.


• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.


• Ability to remain calm, professional, and customer-focused under pressure.


• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.


• Ability to lift, carry, and move merchandise and supplies.


• Frequent bending, reaching, squatting, and climbing.


• Ability to work in refrigerated and freezer environments when needed.


• Ability to safely perform cleaning, stocking, and closing tasks.


• Ability to respond quickly to customer and operational needs throughout the shift.

Schedule

• Hourly position


• Primarily afternoon, evening, and closing shifts


• Weekend availability based on business needs
