Job Title: Grounds and Facility Maintenance Technician
Reports To: Facilities Manager / Maintenance Supervisor
Compensation: DOE
Job Summary:
The Grounds and Facility Maintenance Technician is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and presentation of all building facilities and surrounding grounds. This role ensures that indoor and outdoor areas remain safe and functional for employees, vendors, and customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Grounds Maintenance
Maintain lawns, and trees, including mowing, trimming, and weed control.
Remove litter, debris, and hazards from outdoor areas.
Maintain walkways, parking areas, and exterior lighting.
Perform seasonal duties such as snow removal, salting, leaf blowing, or storm clean-up.
Facility Maintenance
Conduct routine inspections of buildings, fixtures, and equipment to identify maintenance needs.
Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs in carpentry, plumbing, painting, HVAC, and electrical systems. Schedule contractors when professional attention is needed.
Equipment and Supplies
Operate and maintain tools, machinery, and equipment in safe working order.
Monitor inventory and report supply needs for groundskeeping and facility upkeep.
Keep storage areas clean, organized, and secure.
Safety and Compliance
Follow all workplace safety procedures, including the proper use of PPE.
Report hazards, damage, or security concerns promptly to supervisors.
Comply with environmental regulations related to waste disposal and chemical use.
Maintain work logs, repairs, and maintenance records. Compile inspection reports and document repairs.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (vocational training preferred).
Two – five years previous experience in groundskeeping, facility maintenance, or a related trade.
Basic knowledge of landscaping tools, machinery, and maintenance techniques.
Ability to perform moderate physical labor in various weather conditions.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, push, and carry up to 50 pounds at a time.
Prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, and walking.
Must have the manual dexterity needed to operate hand tools, power tools, and other equipment
Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
Work Environment:
Must be able to work some Saturdays and overtime when needed.
Must be able to work inside and/or outside and be exposed to all weather elements, including extreme heat, wind, rain, snow, and freezing temperatures.
Must be able to work in conditions that are exposed to loud noise, heavy vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, and around hazardous and/or non-hazardous materials.
The employee is frequently required to use fingers, handle or touch objects, tools, or controls, and to reach with hands and arms.
