Grounds Coordinator

Join our team!  Galloway Ridge is an upscale continuing care retirement community located between Chapel Hill and Pittsboro in Chatham County, NC.  Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Facilities Operations, the Grounds Coordinator is responsible for performing, supporting, coordinating, and leading grounds & landscaping services within the community. This includes work requests, special projects and programs, and activities on the grounds of the community specific to hardscape services, landscape services, water-based services (irrigation, ponds, & fountains), and other outside services as requested. The Grounds Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for all grounds and landscaping work efforts. Therefore, may be required to be available to respond to emergency issues or needs at any hour of the day and night (Monday to Sunday) when requested.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

• Performs, supports, and leads grounds and landscaping activities. 
• Communicate and collaborate with related vendors and their activities, related work requests, routine groundskeeping and landscaping maintenance, and grounds & landscaping improvements projects. 
• Coordinate and support emergency situations for prompt response and assistance during and outside business hours which includes but not limited to snow and ice removal, storm damage debris removal, and major irrigation leaks repairs. 
• Conduct quality inspections of the community grounds and landscaping to ensure deficiencies are corrected, aesthetics are in good condition, and areas are hazard free such as those caused by external debris, hardscape wear and tears, landscape obstructions, external water issues, or the weather in general. 
• Executes and supports preventative maintenance programs, general inquiries, scheduled work, escalated issues, in-person meetings, sustainable initiatives, ground-related program, department objectives, and corporate initiatives through engagement and collaboration with residents, department staff, service vendors, and community partners. 
• Maintains assigned supply levels, reorders stock, and inventory materials as needed and requested. This includes ensuring tools are clean and safe to use and the Grounds Shed and related areas are organized and cleaned. 
• Provides necessary technical assistance and adheres to safety policy related training in the performance of duties, equipment, and materials used and assigned and maintains awareness of safety-related conditions and reports those conditions immediately. 
• All other duties assigned include, but not limited to, enhancing the Resident Experience. 

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Driver's License  
• Position requires 1-3 years of either demonstrated hands-on and/or vendor management experience in large facility grounds maintenance and landscaping operations to include but is not limited to caring for trees, shrubs, flowers, and beds by pruning, fertilizing, and mulching; maintaining grass and groundcover, controlling weeds, plant diseases, and pest infestations; maintaining groundwater and irrigation systems; supporting maintenance of outdoor recreational areas; and assisting with hardscape services such as asphalt/cement repairs, stone work and snow removal activities. 
• Must possess at least one year of general maintenance experience is preferred. 
• Must be able to operate hand/power tools and equipment and to read common measuring instruments. 
• Must possess ability to read and understand analytical documents with a high degree of accuracy. 
• Must be able to read blueprints, specifications and schematics. 
• Must have computer proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
• Must be able to follow written or oral instructions. 
• Must have effective written and verbal communication skills and be able to work collaboratively within a diverse work group; and have the ability to cooperate with other employees and department directors. 
• Must be willing and eager to work with and provide assistance to the residents of the facility. 
• Must have a genuine interest in geriatric care and believe in and uphold the philosophy of the facility.
