Grounds Worker

Description

Sewickley Academy is seeking to hire a Grounds Worker who is responsible for maintaining all campus landscape areas, outdoor athletic facilities, parking lots and walkways. Additionally, responsible for transporting materials, supplies, packages and equipment. The work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plant, cultivate, fertilize, trim and water ornamental plants, shrubs, hedges, trees, lawns and flowers. Rake leaves and hoe weeds.
• Clean trash from assigned areas including parking lots, as well as trash collection.
• Prepare and treat soils for planting.
• Maintain hoses, sprinklers, tools, supplies and equipment in proper condition and repair.
• Operate and perform minor maintenance on small power-operated pavement sweepers, power mowers, small riding mowers, and other gardening power equipment.
• Prepares and maintains athletic fields and equipment.
• Drive pick-ups and other automotive equipment such as tractors, mowers, and other specialized lawn and turf equipment, in the performance of assigned duties.
• Moves furniture, equipment and supplies.
• Removes snow from parking lots, sidewalks and steps.
• Perform daily mail and package delivery on campus.
• Must be able to work overtime when needed.

Requirements

• Able to read, write, and comprehend at a level appropriate to the duties of the position

• Must show a willingness and ability to learn how to operate work related equipment

• Must possess as valid driver’s license

• Ability to follow instructions given either orally or in writing.

• Good interpersonal skills

• Must be able to work with a diverse group of people.

• Willingness to learn grounds and horticultural practices

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Lift up to 80 pounds

• Ability to push and pull Stand

• Walk up to 8 hours per day

• Climb ladders and stairs

• Bend/Stoop/Kneel

• Use basic hand tools and power tools

• Stamina for prolonged or short-term physical exertion
