Groundskeeper

Job Summary: The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the appearance and health of outdoor spaces like lawns, parks, and gardens for the company’s sports complex.  Maintenance duties include mowing, landscaping, irrigation, sports fields maintenance, and general maintenance.  This position may also set up, support, and tear down sports and special events.  This position may be required to work evenings, holidays, and weekends to support events and tournaments. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Maintain turf, grass, and landscape areas by mowing, edging, fertilizing, weeding, and pruning trees and shrubs, mulching 
• Repair turf fields; reconditions, preps, and maintains sports fields specifications  
• Perform routine irrigation maintenance, inspection, and repair 
• Perform general cleanup of grounds and facilities, including landscaping, and flower beds 
• Inspect, clean, and repair tools and equipment related to assignment, including, safety screens, nets, benches, bleachers, and other related stadium equipment 
• Provide support for all sports and special events, which include sport leagues, recreation leagues, tournaments, and private & community events 
• Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required 
• Cultivate inclusive and respectful working relationships that support a sense of belonging for all employees and community members 
• Perform other duties of a similar nature or as requested 

Education/Experience: 

High school diploma or GED; and any experience and training which provides the knowledge and ability to perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. 

Qualifications: 

Knowledge of: 

• Horticultural: Understanding of plants, trees, flowers, and turf management 
• Landscape and sports turf maintenance 
• Pest Control: Basic knowledge of pest control methods, including organic and chemical options, is helpful 
• Basic grass and sports turf maintenance principles 
• Maintenance of sports fields, landscape, and turf maintenance 
• Safe working practices 

Skills & Abilities:

• Perform basic mathematical calculations 
• Operate light construction equipment 
• Use a computer and related software applications 
• Understand and carry out written and oral instructions 
• Perform routine maintenance and repair activities 
• Operate or use vehicles, equipment, and various power and hand-held tools 
• Communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
