OBJECTIVE: Groundskeeping laborer is a hands-on physical role ensuring that outdoors spaces are safe, clean, maintained, and attractive.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Mowing grass. 
• Plants grass, shrubs, trees, and flowers. 
• Maintains and repairs storm water retention ponds, fences, gates, retaining walls, rock gardens, outdoor lighting, and other design features. 
• Digs trenches and levels ground. 
• Applies mulch, fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides. 
• Maintains green spaces by weeding, trimming, and pruning. 
• Removes unwanted or unhealthy plants, shrubs, and trees, as well as downed limbs. 
• Operates hand tools and power equipment, including mowers, leaf-blowers, weed trimmers, skid steer, and chainsaws.  
• Provides customer service to tenants. 
• Rakes leaves and other vegetation from lawns and flower beds. 
• Removes trash and other debris from outdoor areas. 
• Operates snowblower equipment and shovels. 
• Works with other maintenance crew and construction specialists as needed. 
• Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment required to complete landscape projects
• Transport materials using shovels, wheelbarrows, carts, dollies, and hand lifting/carrying
• Periodically operate heavy equipment.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Required:

• High school graduate or GED equivalent is required
• Must have valid driver’s license with reliable transportation to and from the job site
• 1-2 years groundskeeping experience 
• Principles, materials and methods of grounds maintenance and repair
• OSHA 10 certification or the ability to obtain one in 90 days
• Understanding of landscaping equipment, including safe operating practices and signs of maintenance issues
• Ability to operate various types of equipment associated with landscaping/grounds and snow removal 
• Self-motivation and the ability to work autonomously
• Ability to follow detailed instructions 
• Working knowledge of Microsoft applications

Preferred:

• 5+ years of experience in a groundskeeping role

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
• Frequent bending, kneeling, twisting/turning, crouching, crawling
• Ability to climb, work on and carry a ladder
• Comfortable working at various heights
• Ability to navigate diverse terrain

Work Environment: Work is generally performed in an outdoor environment. This position involves working in all climates as well as multi-story buildings in various property locations. This role routinely is exposed to dust and noise associated with groundskeeping/landscaping equipment.  

Special Requirements: This position requires regular in-state travel with the ability to work 40 - 50 hours per week Monday – Friday, with occasional hours outside of that range as business necessitates. This position may require travel between multiple job sites in the same day.
