Groundsman

Description

This position is responsible for the overall working order of The Greenwood Building and related properties. This position reports to the Facilities Manager. 

The Groundsman will provide all services related to the maintaining of lawns, trees, shrubs, and interior and exterior plantings to create visually stimulating environments for tenants and guests to enjoy; removes rubbish, leaves, snow/ice from sidewalks, driveways, alleyways, and parking lots to assure safe passage; performs routine maintenance on gardening and grounds equipment to assure the availability of necessary tools. Assigned work such as mowing, trimming, leaf removal, de-icing, etc. may fluctuate by season. Essential functions and responsibilities of the position may vary by property location based on property requirements and business needs.

• Mows, fertilizes, waters and repairs lawns; applies chemical pesticides and weed control sprays per the seasonal program as needed

• Plants and tends flowerbeds; applies pine straw or other mulching materials as needed

• Prunes, fertilizes and transplants interior and exterior plants, shrubs and trees to enhance growth and appearance

• Waters lawns, shrubs and flowerbeds; maintains irrigation system

• Rakes and/or removes leaves, weeds, and other debris from lawns and passageways; picks up trash from throughout each property

• Removes ice /snow from driveways, sidewalks and parking lots using power equipment or melting salts

• Maintains drainage ditches free of obstruction

• Operate various types of equipment including power mowers, saws, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, sprayers, power washers, etc

• Operates trucks and tractors and attachments used to maintain grounds as needed

• Cleans, repairs and services all power equipment and tools on a routine basis

• Maintains records documenting fuel used by the department; provides status reports to the Manager as required

• Attends staff meetings to obtain and disseminate information and participate in discussions on appropriate resolutions to problems.

• Adheres to all safety policies and procedures

• Other duties and tasks as assigned by manager

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Prior experience in landscaping or grounds maintenance preferred

• Ability to operate and maintain grounds equipment (mowers, trimmers, blowers, etc.)

• Basic knowledge of plant care, turf management, and safe use of chemicals

• Physically able to lift up to 75 lbs. and work outdoors in all weather

• Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently or on a team

• Strong communication and time management skills

• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required

WORK ENVRIONMENT 

This is a physically demanding outdoor role requiring work in extreme heat, cold, humidity, rain, and occasional snow or ice. It involves prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching, as well as lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 75 pounds regularly. The Groundsman must operate heavy equipment and follow safety protocols. Work hours may include early mornings, extended shifts, and seasonal demands based on weather and turf conditions.
