Salary: $52,000 per year
POSITION SUMMARY
The Group Tours Coordinator oversees the development and implementation of guided group tour initiatives. He/she provides coordination for Group Tours Associate(s) and Docent tour guides. As a player-coach, the Group Tours Coordinator also is trained in providing high quality tours to our wide range of tour guests as needed.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee the daily scheduling and operations of guided private group tours, in collaboration with the group tours team.
Ensure all tours meet established standards as defined by rubric and tour scripts, whether led by staff or docents
Serve as the standard bearer for a high-quality, in-depth, knowledgeable, interactive, immersive, and engaging guided tours at Museum of the Bible
Track guest participation across all guided group tours (private groups and event tours as needed)
Develop schedules that maximize staff resources, docent availability, and guest demand
Work with the Customer Service team to resolve any outstanding issues with group tour reservations, including tour deposits, non-payment and schedule adjustments if needed
Work with all staff, docents, and especially new volunteers to maintain a high level of awareness of how guided tours fit within the overall priorities and goals of the Development Team and Museum’s mission at large
Work with Manager of Group Engagement to coordinate regular staff and docent check-ins of the quality of their tour, providing constructive feedback, identifying areas for improvement, and encouraging personalized guest engagement
Ensure and coordinate the development of new guided group tours that align with guest interest and the Museum’s mission,
Work with Manager of Group Engagement and the Volunteer manager to ensure all existing tours are translated into additional languages
Coordinate the full tour development process: ensuring timely script production, curatorial review, staff and docent training and orientation.
Partner with the Docent Manager and Tour Associates to recruit new docents from the community and develop strategies to retain the existing docent corps
Oversee docent training program for each guided tour
Provide supervisory oversight of Docents and manage related administrative responsibilities
Work with volunteer services to train and develop the team of Docents by empowering them to lead excellent guided tours that serve as models for all staff and other docents
Serve the Development Team as needed to support initiatives and events relating to the Manager’s knowledge and skills.
Meet regularly with the Manager of Group Sales and Community Engagement and report guided tour metrics
Serve as a VIP tour guide when needed for high profile donors and guests
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge
Associate’s degree in Education, History, Religious Studies, Museum Studies or related field.
1- 3 years of experience in museums, tour experience a plus .
Skills / Core Competencies
Familiarity with or strong interest in the Bible required.
Excellent verbal and presentation skills; able to communicate complex and nuanced concepts to a broad range of audiences.
Able to create structure and processes to implement and oversee programs for the Tours team.
Abilities / Attributes
Excellent people skills and able to quickly build rapport with a diversity of people, including VIPs and children.
Able to multi-task and juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
Excellent problem-solving skills, to assess and find solutions to challenges, as well as streamline current operations.
Able to work evenings and weekends as needed
Stand for extended periods of time and lift 30lbs
Champion the Museum of the Bible’s mission to invite all people to engage with the transformative power of the Bible
As needed, inclusion in official or incidental photographs and videos for MOTB and/or guests.
