Job Description - Gun Drill Operator {H}

What You'll Do


As a Gun Drill Machinist, you will set up and operate gun drilling equipment to produce deep, precise bores that meet blueprint, dimensional, surface finish, and quality requirements.


Key responsibilities include:



  • Set up and operate gun drill machines

  • Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T requirements, routers, and work instructions

  • Select and set up drills, tooling, and workholding

  • Load parts and verify secure workholding

  • Monitor coolant pressure, coolant flow, and chip evacuation

  • Adjust feeds and speeds within authorized limits

  • Control drilling depth, hole straightness, bore size, and surface finish

  • Recognize tool wear and perform tool changes

  • Troubleshoot drift, straightness, dimensional, finish, and chip evacuation issues

  • Perform first-piece and in-process inspections

  • Use calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, indicators, and other precision measuring equipment

  • Complete production, inspection, and traceability documentation

  • Support preventive maintenance activities

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area

  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives and support team training when needed


Required Qualifications


· High school diploma or GED


· Ability to read engineering drawings and manufacturing instructions


· Understanding of GD&T principles


· Ability to use precision measuring equipment


· Ability to maintain accurate production and inspection records


· Ability to work independently and as part of a manufacturing team


Preferred Qualifications


· Experience with CNC machining, gun drilling, deep-hole drilling, or precision machining


· Experience in medical device, aerospace, or other tight-tolerance manufacturing environments
