Position Summary:

The Touring Hair & Makeup Supervisor is directly responsible for managing the safe and consistent running, moving, and maintaining of all Hair & Makeup elements associated with the Hell’s Kitchen Tour.  They are responsible for managing both the touring and the local Hair crew as well as for the maintenance and styling of wigs, actor haircuts on a day-to-day basis and will run cues during the show.

Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Manage the day-to-day operations of the Hair & Makeup Department and directly oversee the activities of the crew.

• Creates and oversees Hair & Makeup tracks for the show, under the supervision of the Production Stage Managers. This includes the wig calls for the show and all the hair & makeup change cues during the performance. 


• Manages the local union hair & makeup crew at each show stop, teaching tracks to new crew members.


• Supervises in the washing, maintenance, and repair of all show wigs to the highest standards.


• Supervises haircuts and styling for any company member required to style their own hair for the show.


• Supervises in the packing, load-out, travel, load-in, and tech of all hair & makeup elements of the show between tour stops.


• Manages fittings of any new cast members that join the company after Opening Night, in communication with the Hair & Makeup Designers.

• Work with Company Management to ensure the department remains on budget, as per allocated Labor costs, supplies, materials, dry cleaning, etc.


• Submit Weekly Payroll to Head Carpenter and Company Management (including tracking employees Sick Days)


• Submit Weekly Petty Cash receipts to Company Management


• Maintain, track and maximize the material inventory


• Work collaboratively with the Hair & Makeup Team and all Departments working on the show


• Maintain a flexible schedule for Special Events, Publicity and Put-In Dress Rehearsals

The desired experience and qualifications for this position include:

• Detail-oriented, willing to complete both complex and menial repetitive tasks with exacting precision.


• 2 years national touring experience in a hair & makeup role.


• Barbers License preferred.


• Hair Braiding experience preferred.


• Solid fundamental knowledge of construction, styling & repair of wigs.


• Must have good communication skills, especially in regard to the smooth and efficient training of the local crews in each new venue.


• Team player, able to work long hours in very close quarters with many different types of passionate personalities. 


• Willing to work in an 8-show a week schedule. Often called in for rehearsals outside of the show schedule.


• Must be able to work around loud sounds and flashing lights.


• Willingness to work in dark often cramped/ closed spaces.


• Able to physically lift 50 pounds, comfortable lifting and walking backwards, comfortable walking up and down stairs.
