Job Description - Hardware Engineer


 Required Skill Sets and Experience:


v  3 - 15 years of digital, analog and mixed mode, board-level hardware design (preferably audio-related), including embedded microcontroller design


v  Working knowledge of audio DSP hardware architectures, algorithms, applications and concepts, including: FFT, sampling, aliasing, fixed-point processing, IIR and FIR filter implementations, as well as experience using DSP development toolsets


v  Audio knowledge and analog design capability, including: Op Amps, amplifiers, ADCs, DACs, switching and linear voltage regulators, passive and active filters, EMI/EMC suppression circuitry, sensors, transducers, etc.


v  Experience with power management: low power designs and battery charging technologies


v  Knowledge of and design experience with various RF (radio) technologies, including: circuit designs, subsystems, hardware components (e.g., Nordic, Avnera, TI, Ozmo, etc.) and interfaces with analog and digital circuitry


v  Knowledge of and experience with various wireless protocols (2.4 GHz, 5.8 GHz, Wi-Fi, DECT, etc.)


v  System level integration experience and DFx (Design for Cost, Test and Manufacturing) expertise


v  Embedded firmware programming in C, C++ and Assembler for 8 and 16-bit microcontroller-based products, including boot up and programming from flash


v  Past experience with USB communication, I2C, I2S, SPI and S/PDIF interfaces


v  Expert capabilities with schematic capture and mixed-signal, multilayer, SMT, PC board layout (OrCAD, PADS, Protel, Eagle, Allegro, etc.)


v  Expert capabilities with analog and digital circuit simulation tools (e.g., Saber, PSPICE, HyperLynx), test and verification software


v  Expert familiarity with electronic test equipment: mixed-signal analyzers (Audio Precision), spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, ICE, JTAG, DVM, and similar tools


v  Experience with acoustic testing and test tools (e.g., HATS, MLS, FFT, Audio Precision, Sound Check)


v  Understanding of audio quality metrics (e.g., frequency response, distortion, noise), digital audio and advanced signal processing concepts


v  Experience with trouble-shooting and diagnostics of digital, analog and mixed signal circuitry


v  Prototype fabrication and assembly, including SMT soldering ability desired


v  BS or greater in Electrical Engineering or related field


v  Proven project management skills


v  Excellent documentation skills


v  Excellent written and verbal communications skills


v  Must be independent and self-motivated, with strong analytical skills and creative thinking


 Responsibilities Include:


v  Embedded digital, analog and mixed-signal hardware for audio-based systems, including: microprocessor control, signal processing, interface, RF and DSP


v  Design, debugging and support of DSP for standard industry platforms such as: AKM, Cirrus, TI, ADI, etc.


v  Design, diagnostics and firmware support of audio and RF-based wireless products


v  Plan and develop experimental test programs to verify hardware or firmware operation


v  Create specifications, ECNs and perform necessary design change support


v  Write reports, design documents, proposals and other documents as required


v  Perform design verification testing and analysis to determine if designs meet functional and performance specifications


v  Support manufacturing and test groups as needed


v  Analyze data to determine feasibility of new technologies and product designs 


v  R&D of new technologies, including proof-of-concept


v  Perform version control and documentation of hardware and firmware


v  Participate in internal design reviews to ensure accurate and timely completion of designs and documentation


v  Work efficiently and effectively within a highly integrated team environment including other hardware and software engineers
