HARM REDUCTION SPECIALIST - HIV/PREP-PEP-DOXYPEP/CareOnHand

SisterReach, founded in October 2011, is a Memphis, TN-based grassroots 501(c)(3) non-profit organization supporting the reproductive autonomy of Black women, women and girls of color, poor and rural women, LGBTQIA+ and gender expansive people, and their families through the framework of Reproductive and Sexual Justice. Our mission is to empower our base to lead healthy lives, raise healthy families, and live in healthy communities. 




POSITION OVERVIEW:
 
The Harm Reduction Specialist- HIV/PREP-PEP-DOXYPEP/CareOnHand is a key member of the Harm Reduction Department, specializing in HIV services, PrEP -PEP-DoxyPEP education, and syringe services programs (CareOnHand). Reporting to the Director of Harm Reduction, this position works collaboratively with program team members, including the Director of Education, Sexual Health Educators, Program Coordinator - Pearl’s Pantry (PP), PP Support Assistants, Pearl’s Pantry Mobile Program Coordinator, and Mobile Drivers. The Specialist also provides support to these roles as needed to expand capacity. 


This position combines programmatic responsibilities, direct community engagement, and advocacy efforts. The ideal candidate will have strong time and task management skills, proficiency in digital tools, and lived or professional experience in HIV care, harm reduction, or substance use support. Cultural humility, diversity, equity, and compassion are essential as this role directly supports community members living with HIV and substance use disorders. 




RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Education, Advocacy, & Community Engagement 



  • Facilitates, organizes, and manages support groups for individuals living with HIV or navigating substance use disorders. 

  • Manages YouMeHIV Campaign including leading outreach, education, storytelling, and marketing efforts of the campaign. 

  • Provides education, resources, and care connection for individuals seeking HIV testing, PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis), PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis), DoxyPEP (Doxycycline Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) and syringe services.  

  • Coordinate Pleasure Pak and Harm Reduction Kit distribution, including processing requests, preparing kits, and managing mail or in-person distribution.  

  • Facilitates, organizes, and manages support groups for individuals living with HIV or navigating substance use disorders.  

  • Works with community and state partners to align resources and expand program impact. 

  • Collaborates with volunteers and interns to provide operational support for harm reduction programs. 

  • Coordinates tabling and outreach efforts to engage community members and promote harm reduction services. 

  • Represents the organization at meetings, conferences, panels, and webinars as assigned. 

  • Tracks data on all programming engagements and submits for evaluation. 

  • Works with the Marketing and Communications Department to develop messaging and collateral targeting people who use drugs (PWUD) and individuals living with HIV (PLWHIV) and AIDS, focusing on PrEP, PEP, and DoxyPEP education. 


Administrative Function 

  • Develops and submits detailed weekly and quarterly work plans, including narratives summarizing activities, outcomes, and upcoming priorities. 

  • Actively participates in individual and group check-in meetings, organizational staff meetings, and relevant departmental discussions. 

  • Supports and participates in the organization’s special events, campaigns, and initiatives as needed. 

  • Utilizes Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Google Calendar, and other digital tools to manage tasks and schedules efficiently. 

  • Documents activities, maintains accurate records, and submits reports in a timely manner. 

  • Assists with program evaluation and data collection to support grant reporting and organizational metrics. 


Training and Certification 

  • Maintains certification in HIV testing and harm reduction 

  • Delivers culturally appropriate services to community members with an emphasis on equity, respect, and compassion. 


Collaboration and Capacity Building 

  • Provides additional support to harm reduction team members, including the Program Coordinator - Pearl’s Pantry, Support Assistants, and Mobile Program Coordinator, as needed to expand departmental capacity. 

  • Collaborates with the Director of Harm Reduction to identify areas for program improvement and innovation. 


SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Strong time and task management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, web-based email platforms, and Google Calendar. 

  • Lived experience with an HIV diagnosis or substance use disorder, or expert-level understanding of these topics is a plus. 

  • Cultural humility and ability to serve diverse populations with equity, respect, and compassion. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally in public forums. 

  • Ability to facilitate and organize support groups with sensitivity and confidentiality. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Certification in HIV testing and care connection, harm reduction strategies, and services for people who use drugs (PWUD). (Certification training can be provided) 

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in harm reduction, public health, or related fields. 

  • Familiarity with harm reduction programming, including syringe services programs (CareOnHand) and HIV prevention. 

  • Knowledge of reproductive and sexual justice or social justice work is desirable. 

  • Experience working collaboratively with community and state partners is preferred. 

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are a plus. 

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: 


  • Salary Range: $45,000 - $55,000 annually, based on experience (lived and/or professional), qualifications, and organizational budget.
