Our client, a leading agribusiness organization, is seeking a highly experienced Head of Engineering to lead the planning, execution, and maintenance of large-scale agricultural infrastructure and farm development projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing engineering operations across construction, irrigation, utilities, farm facilities, automation systems, and asset management while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory and ESG standards. This role requires a strategic and hands-on engineering leader with extensive experience managing multidisciplinary projects and technical teams.
Responsibilities:

Lead the planning, design, execution, and delivery of agricultural infrastructure and farm development projects.
Oversee the construction and development of farm infrastructure, internal roads, bridges, irrigation systems, drainage networks, utilities, operational facilities, housing, and support infrastructure.
Manage multidisciplinary engineering functions including civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, automation, instrumentation, and architectural works.
Ensure projects are completed on time, within approved scope, budget, and quality standards.
Monitor project progress against established milestones and implement corrective actions to address delays or cost overruns.
Collaborate closely with procurement teams to ensure timely sourcing and delivery of materials, equipment, and services.
Work with finance teams to manage project budgets, cost controls, payment schedules, and CAPEX reporting.
Coordinate with HR and legal departments to support workforce planning, contractor engagement, permits, approvals, and regulatory compliance.
Manage contractors, consultants, suppliers, and service providers to ensure contractual obligations and performance standards are met.
Establish and enforce engineering standards, quality assurance procedures, and technical specifications across all projects.
Ensure compliance with Tanzanian construction regulations, environmental requirements, safety standards, and statutory approvals.
Liaise with government authorities, regulatory agencies, consultants, and external stakeholders regarding project approvals and compliance matters.
Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance programs for farm infrastructure, equipment, utilities, and operational assets.
Drive automation, mechanization, instrumentation, and technology adoption initiatives to improve operational efficiency and asset reliability.
Lead the implementation of modern irrigation control systems, monitoring technologies, and precision agriculture infrastructure.
Establish risk management frameworks to identify, assess, and mitigate engineering, operational, and project-related risks.
Promote a strong culture of health, safety, environmental compliance, and sustainability throughout all engineering activities.
Lead, mentor, and develop engineering and project management teams to drive performance, succession planning, and continuous improvement.
Prepare regular project, risk, quality, budget, and performance reports for senior leadership and key stakeholders.

Requirements
Bachelorâs Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Postgraduate qualification in Engineering Management, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related field is highly preferred.
Professional certifications in Project Management, Engineering Management, PMP, PRINCE2, or Six Sigma will be an added advantage.
Minimum 15â20 years of experience managing large-scale infrastructure, agricultural, industrial, construction, or engineering projects.
Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and complex capital projects from planning through commissioning.
Strong expertise in irrigation systems, drainage networks, utilities, infrastructure development, and agricultural engineering projects.
Experience managing CAPEX budgets, project scheduling, contractor performance, and cost control programs.
Knowledge of automation systems, instrumentation, mechanization technologies, and digital transformation initiatives.
Strong understanding of quality assurance, quality control, engineering standards, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Demonstrated experience in asset management, preventive maintenance programs, and operational reliability improvement.
Familiarity with engineering design software, project management systems, and reporting tools.
Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical functions.
Excellent leadership, problem-solving, communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
Experience working in large-scale agribusiness, plantation, infrastructure, construction, or industrial environments is highly desirable.
Willingness to travel extensively across project locations as required.
