Job Summary

The Head of Library Systems and eResources primarily oversees electronic resource management. This includes coordinating vendor negotiations, licensing agreements, renewal notices, and cancellations. This also includes tracking of the Libraries' eResource budget and compilation and analysis of usage statistics. This position is also responsible for overseeing and assisting with the management of Library Systems such as GALILEO, the Library catalog, and other platforms such as LibGuides. It is also responsible for management of the University's institutional repository: the CSU ePress. As a member of the Library Faculty, the Head of Library Systems and eResources maintains ongoing professional development and participates in relevant service opportunities as outlined in the Library Faculty Standards of Excellence.

Responsibilities

Significant Duties and Responsibilities include: Management of Library eResource Subscriptions and tracking of eResource Budget (30%).; Coordinates vendor negotiations, license agreements, renewal notices, and cancellations in conjunction with the Library Administrative Coordinator, CSU's General Counsel, and Shared Administrative Services.; Evaluates annual usage for eResource subscriptions and the vendors included in the Repairs and Maintenance Account for selection and deselection recommendations.; In coordination with the Dean of Libraries: Monitors the eResource budget to track costs and expenses to include evaluating yearly renewal cost changes to recommend selection and deselection of electronic resources and maintenance costs.; Management of Library Systems, e.g. GALILEO, OpenAthens, Catalog, etc. (30%).; Manages patron accounts in applicable library systems (OpenAthens, Panorama, etc.).; Works with GALILEO Systems office on systems updates and changes.; Assists in connecting and integrating eResources and platforms such as LibGuides.; Work in conjunction with other key Library personnel in the management and maintenance of the Library catalog.; Manages OpenURL and EBSCO Discovery Systems.; Management of CSU ePress (10%).; Coordinates submissions, approvals, and uploads of: Student theses and dissertations as well as faculty scholarship. Student and faculty scholarly publications and presentations. Topical publications featuring student projects (The Arden, Momentum, Abstracts: Highlights of Student Research and Creative Endeavors).; Supervision of staff and student assistants as needed (10%).; Responsible for the hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of staff, and student assistants.; Subject-specific liaison instruction, outreach, and collection development (10%).; Provides in-depth and specialized instruction on how to conduct research and utilize Library resources. Engages in detailed research consultations to assist students and faculty to identify ways to support scholarship and utilize Library resources.; Maintains subject specific collections to make recommendations on new acquisitions and to engage in regular weeding of outdated and underutilized resources.; Service and Professional Development as expected of a Library Faculty Member (10%).; Serves on library and university committees and engages in relevant service opportunities for the community and profession.; Serves as an integral member of the Library Faculty and senior library administration to improve collections, services, and facilities.; Participates in professional development and continuing education endeavors for professional and personal growth and to ensure competency and currency in the discipline.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications include: ALA-accredited Master of Library Science or equivalent.; Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in managing library technical services and systems programs.

Proposed Salary

The proposed annualized salary range for this position is $65,000 - $70,000 and includes full benefits.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities include: Working knowledge of integrated library systems, bibliographic utilities, and library networking practices and standards.; Working knowledge of MARC 21, Dublin Core, MARCXML, MODS and cataloging standards, such as AACR2 and RDA.; Practical experience with HTML/CSS, XSLT and other web programming standards.; Desire to expand knowledge of other technologies to further the goals and expansion of library services.; Ability to set priorities and complete tasks in a timely manner.; Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a collegial environment.; Desire and ability to maintain level of professional development on a national, regional, and local level.; Ability to work with diverse populations with a strong commitment to customer service.; Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Conditions of Employment

A credit check completed for Positions of Trust and or approved departmental Purchase Card usage;

Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive a Columbus State University fleet vehicle or other vehicle designated as a fleet vehicle. A successful drug screening will be required as a condition of employment a randomly thereafter.
