About the Role

We are hiring a Head of Video Systems Engineering to own how video is captured, processed, enhanced, and delivered across our entire platform.

This role sits at the intersection of:

• Video pipelines and codecs
• Hardware + software system design
• Media processing at scale
• AI-driven video quality enhancement

You will architect and evolve the systems that transform fragile analog media into high-quality digital assets. This includes everything from capture workflows and encoding pipelines to restoration, upscaling, and delivery systems.

This is a hands-on builder role, not a pure management position. You will prototype, test, deploy, and continuously improve systems that operate at production scale, balancing quality, throughput, and unit economics.
 

Technical Focus Areas

This role is ideal for someone who has worked with video codecs, media pipelines, FFmpeg-based systems, or AI-driven video quality enhancement.

• Video codecs and encoding (H.264, H.265/HEVC, ProRes, etc.)
• Media processing pipelines (capture → encode → QA → delivery)
• Transcoding and format conversion at scale
• FFmpeg or similar tooling for building and automating pipelines
• Video quality optimization, including compression and artifact reduction
• Upscaling and restoration, including super-resolution and denoising
• Frame rate conversion and video normalization
• Color correction and image processing fundamentals
• Media encoding/decoding performance optimization
• GPU-accelerated processing for video or image workloads
• Computer vision or AI-based video enhancement (bonus)

Ideal Background

• Experience with video processing or media pipelines
• Strong understanding of codecs and transcoding
• Hands-on with FFmpeg or similar tools
• Experience with GPU processing
• Background in video/image quality optimization
• Systems thinker with builder mindset

Work Environment

This role is hybrid / onsite at Legacybox’s digitization facility in Chattanooga TN, where thousands of family memories are carefully handled and preserved every day. You will work closely with production leadership and frontline teams to ensure operational excellence.
