Job Description - Head Start Lead Teacher

Qualifications:



  1. Early Childhood Education (bachelor’s degree preferred, minimum of associate degree in Early Childhood or related field required)



  1. Must be able to handle confidential information.

  2. Must pass pre-employment drug test.

  3. Must be familiar with community resources.

  4. Be able to lift 40 pounds, stoop and bend to speak with children at their level.  Be patient and caring.

  5. Must be insurable under the agency’s insurance policy.

  6. Must provide the agency with a copy of his/her personal vehicle insurance verification.

  7. Must give Ross County CAC permission to obtain Motor Vehicle Record.

  8. Must adhere to all agency safety policies and procedures and code of conduct; training will be documented in personnel file.

  9. Complete pre-employment physical and drug screening; complete BCI and FBI background review; background check for child abuse and sex offender registry.


 Job Description:



  1. Develop and post daily lesson plan for the center, implement daily schedules and plans for the day. Will include the assistant teacher/bus driver, parents, and children in the preparation of daily plans.

  2. Supervise the safety of all children in the center.

  3. Personally report any suspected child abuse or neglect to Children’s Services after reporting inform supervisor and complete internal paperwork.

  4. Use discretion with other professionals in keeping children’s information confidential.

  5. Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies for the center and requesting the aforementioned when needed

  6. Support emerging literacy and numeric development

  7. Interact positively with children to promote many developmental skills.

  8. Conduct two (2) parent- teacher conferences a year and record in ChildPlus.

  9. Conduct two (2) Educational Home Visits yearly lasting 1 to 1 ½ hours per visit; provide educational plan to document each visit and record in ChildPlus.

  10. Screen each child within 45 days of enrollment, using the current assessment tool.

  11. Assess each child using the Teaching Strategies Gold assessment 3 times per year maintaining records and updating as needed. Implement the I.E.P. goals as determined by the I.E.P. Team.

  12. Assist in organization of transition to kindergarten activities, including completion of individual child kindergarten profile.

  13. Maintain, along with other staff, the center in a clean and orderly manner.

  14. Work cooperatively with all Head Start Staff and maintain a positive attitude.

  15. Possess a thorough knowledge of center rules and act as a role model for the teacher assistant/bus drivers, and parent volunteers.

  16. Keep a daily attendance log keeping in mind that at least 85% attendance shall be kept at all times. Each absence will be documented specifically as to reason for the absence. Assist in contacting parents of children who miss 3 consecutive days of school or have irregular attendance.

  17. Conduct daily checks of children in accordance with ODJFS Regulations to ensure children are free from communicable diseases. A communicable disease is determined with the assistance of the Site Administrator and/or Health Manager.

  18. Distribute information to families, keeping communication open at all times.

  19. Organize and plan activities to encourage and involve parents in becoming effective participants in the educational process

  20. Assist in ensuring completion of physical and dental, and completion of follow-up treatment.

  21. Alert the Child & Family Advocate of social service needs of families.

  22. Be the bus monitor for the Bus Driver when needed.

  23. Assist with recruitment and enrollment process for Head Start.

  24. Assist with the implementation of food service as required by CACFP, Head Start Performance Standards and local health regulations. Duties include, but are not limited to, serving meals, maintaining accurate attendance and meal counts, monitoring special diets, and obtaining CACFP Enrollment Forms.

  25. Perform all job duties to ensure program will remain in compliance with all Federal and State Performance Standards, Department of Education Rules and Regulations and Dept. of Job & Family Services Regulations.

  26. At the discretion of the Early Childhood Director, the teacher shall attend meetings, seminars, trainings, and conferences and shall share that information with other staff.
