AVANCE is a nationally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which began in San Antonio, Texas in 1973. AVANCE derives from the Spanish word meaning “to advance or “to progress.” AVANCE is considered a pioneer in the field of parent education, helping support children and families achieve excellence through education and family-intervention programs which includes the renowned AVANCE Parent-Child Education Program. We provide community-based interventions, which are family-centered, preventive, comprehensive, and continuous through the integration and collaboration of educational services.
What began in a 500-unit public housing development in San Antonio, Texas, with an annual budget of $50,000 serving 35 families, AVANCE has grown to over 100 program sites across the U.S. serving thousands of parents and children annually
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for monitoring and racking all participants’ health and nutrition records to ensure program is in compliance at all times. Staff is also responsible for contacting physicians to request health and nutrition records accordingly, as well as helping families access needed health services.
Working Conditions:
Work may involve unusual and extended working hours, including evenings and weekends. Must have flexible schedule. Work inside and outside of facilities.
Work in family’s home.
Work in various types of weather conditions.
Occasional exposure to childhood illnesses.
Must be able to handle multiple tasks.
Must be able to lift, push, pull or move 15-30 lbs. on a frequent basis.
Assist families in making and keeping medical appointments.
Coordinate with Bus Driver to provide transportation as needed by AVANCE bus, public transportation, bus tokens or personal vehicle.
Advocate for parents during doctor visits, as needed.
Ensures that parents obtain the needed prescription or over the counter medication, as needed.
Teaches parents on how to follow the doctor’s instructions.
Submits complete, accurate and timely medical and dental records.
Develops and maintains a supportive relationship with the medical community.
Informs supervisor of all needs expressed by family members or observed.
Attends staff meetings and trainings sessions as required.
Assists department staff in monitoring all health services to infants, toddlers and expectant mothers to ensure they are meeting scheduled health care requirements.
Maintain health and dental tracking logs to ensure all participants are up to date with al health and dental records.
Input and tack all health and dental data into PRMIS database.
Works evenings and weekends as needed.
Assist with administering all health and vision screenings as needed.

EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED and some college course work
Preferred: Health Aide Certification, AVANCE graduate.
EXPERIENCE:
Working with families with diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
Specific experience in medical records administration
Excellent oral, written and computer communications skills
Working knowledge of local community resources related to medical and dental care
