Job Description - Health & Nutrition Content Specialist
The Health and Nutrition Content Specialist supports the overall well-being of children and families by ensuring high-quality health and nutrition services. This role implements and monitors work plans that align with Head Start and ECEAP Performance Standards, state licensing requirements, agency policies and USDA requirements. The specialist works closely with internal teams and community partners to coordinate services that promote safe and healthy environments. The Health & Nutrition Content Specialist ensures all practices are culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate. This position plays a key role in supporting school readiness through comprehensive health and nutrition strategies. Ongoing evaluation and improvement of services are central to this role's responsibilities.
Essential Job Functions
Be committed to characterizing a culture of safety within our centers, playgrounds, buses and anywhere that children may be present. Be familiar with and encourage EPICs culture of “See Something, Say Something”.
Collaborate with key community partners including school districts, Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF), health agencies and others.
Take an active role in planning to improve the delivery of services to children and families.
Provide training, technical assistance and coaching to direct services staff in assigned areas ensuring full compliance to Head Start/ECEAP Performance Standards, state licensing requirements and EPIC work plan.
Participate in ongoing program monitoring and self-assessment activities as designed to identify areas of strength and non-compliance; determine program trends or issues; strategize with team to ensure completion of follow-up.
Regularly review child/family files and data tracking reports to ensure proper documentation, identify training needs, monitor compliance to Performance Standards and timelines; following up and resolving issues in a timely manner.
Interact with children and classroom staff on a regular basis by making scheduled and unannounced classroom visits, observations and monitoring. Provide feedback on an on-going basis to the Center Manager regarding classroom observations, trainings provided to staff and staff compliance to Head Start Performance Standards.
Pay Level:
$83,200 - $85,200 (salary exempt)
BA/BS in Nutrition, Healthcare Management, Maternal/Child Health, Nursing/RN, or Public Health OR equivalent combination of experience and/or training in Early Childhood which demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
At least three years of demonstrated experience working in a Head Start/Migrant Head Start, child care or other comparable programs in a leadership position
Demonstrated, successful experience in direct supervision of staff.
Demonstrated, successful experience working with budgets.
Ability to work with minimal direction from supervisor.
Experience with low-income families preferred.
Bilingual/Bicultural (English/Spanish) preferred.
Ability to effectively manage change and prioritize multiple demands.
Willingness and ability to travel alone to all of EPIC's sites and to conferences and meetings outside of EPIC's service area.
Valid Washington State Driver’s License, own transportation and required auto insurance.

Conditions of Employment:
Prior to employment, complete a pre-employment drug screen, Tb skin test by an EPIC approved healthcare provider at no cost to the employee.
Pre-employment basic physical by an EPIC healthcare provider (obtain within 30 days of employment and no cost to the employee).
You must pass an initial and ongoing background check through the Washington State Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF). As a licensed early learning provider, EPIC, Early Learning is required to perform thorough background checks for all employees who will work with children unsupervised. Having a criminal history does not automatically disqualify an applicant. Job offers depend on successfully completing a background check that meets DCYF standards, which includes fingerprinting.
Provide proof of MMR vaccination and/ or resistance to Measles, Mumps & Rubella.
Current Food Handlers card (obtain the training within 30 days of employment).
Current First Aid/CPR card (obtain within thirty 30 days of employment).
Complete Child Abuse and Neglect training and all other mandated training.
