POSITION SUMMARY:
The Health and Wellness Coordinator is responsible for the daily operations of the Wellness Center Floor including personal training and wellness programs. This role ensures a clean, safe environment for members utilizing equipment and programs. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- Recruit, hire, on-board, train, schedule and supervise wellness attendants and personal trainers to ensure quality programming is being delivered to participants consistent with the YMCA philosophy and mission.
- Cultivate the professional development of the staff for growth and success.
- Address staffing issues and concerns.
- Compile payroll bi-weekly and monitor daily hours for staff.
- Evaluate and coach staff, identifying areas for improvement and recognizing successes
- Partner with the Group Exercise Coordinator to support functions of the Group Exercise program.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and trainings that foster growth and build team camaraderie
- Implement and supervise safety and emergency procedures as they relate to both personnel and members.
- Maintain and supervise process for cleaning wellness floor: cleaning machines, picking up weights left on floor, water bottles, refilling wipes and toilet paper dispensers.
- Conduct new member wellness screenings, orientations and tours.
- Circulate through the Wellness Center to maintain a friendly, open and helpful relationship with all members.
- Deliver direct wellness services or programs to participants as needed or assigned, including personal training, class instruction or program delivery.
- Monitor usage of fitness equipment and make recommendations for new equipment as needed.
- Purchase and manage all budgeted and approved equipment necessary for the success of the YMCA and department.
- Promote member programs and services.
- Organize group exercise schedules in the appropriate YMCA application and managing sub requests.
- Assure proper coverage for all fitness classes.
- Substitute teach to assure no cancellation of classes.
- Communicate program changes and other information to appropriate staff/members immediately.
- Ensure instructors track class attendance for group exercise classes through Mind Body app.
- Constantly assess class attendance, make changes to group-ex schedule to ensure we are meeting member needs
- Stay up-to-date on all membership and branch promotions, and ensure that group exercise staff are announcing promotions.
- Serve as Manager on Duty as assigned weekend and/ or evenings.
- Support member retention through all programs and services.
- Stay current on fitness concepts and ideas.
- Respond to emergencies as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous customer service, sales or related experience.
- Must possess a current Personal Training certification.
- Five or more years of program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
- 1+ years of related experience in supervising and training staff and coordinating schedules required.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills.
- Solid computer skills and experience with standard business software.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow multi-step instructions required.
- Ability to effectively delegate responsibilities to others and support them as necessary.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task to meet deadlines and work efficiently both individually and as a team.
- YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
- Other relevant YMCA Trainings for position, including Redwoods Risk Management within 30 days and Wellness specific within first 6 months.
- Must be CPR and First Aid certified or willing to become certified within 30 days.
- Ability to respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in emergency situations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Ability to bend, kneel, push, and pull.
- Ability to lift 50+lbs.
- Ability to speak and write concisely and effectively communicate needs.
- Ability to view computer monitor and enter data for long periods of time.
- Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends as needed.
