Job Duties
Assists in the development and implementation of strategies to carry out contractual commitments relative to health education. Areas of focus may include but are not limited to the prevention, promotion, education, and/or compliance of: tobacco prevention and cessation, chronic diseases, injury; opioids; healthy behaviors; etc.
Conducts classroom-type education and promotional activities throughout the district including businesses, community events, and activities, schools and school activities, high-risk groups, etc.
Assess local health education needs using surveys and other assessment tools; document and evaluate results and analyze trends within the district to develop comprehensive local health education plans based upon identified needs.
Coordinate prevention campaigns for residents by implementing awareness campaigns, media relations, and other social marketing plans.
Evaluate the impact of health education programs by conducting process, impact, and outcome evaluation.
Disseminate general health education information for the various divisions of the health department; consult with, and educate, the divisions and/or assist in bringing together comprehensive prevention services throughout the county by assisting in consultation services and networking with other agencies or groups.
Work Schedule
Typically Monday thru Thursday 7:30-5:30, Friday from 8-5 with every other Friday off, some evenings and weekends

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from college with a bachelor’s degree in health education, public health, community health, social work, psychology, or a related field
Must possess a valid Utah Driver’s License
Special / Preferred Qualifications:
One year of experience in planning, developing, implementing, and/or promoting health services
Grant writing, monitoring, and evaluating
Work Environment
Incumbent of the position performs in a typical office/clinical setting with appropriate environmental controls. Tasks require a variety of physical activities, periodically involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting around 30-70 pounds for short periods. Talking, hearing, and seeing are essential to most effective job performance. Periodic exposure to communicable disease. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability, discriminating thinking, and creative problem-solving. Frequent travel is required in the normal course of job performance.
In the event of an emergency, such as a natural disaster or public health emergency response event, all employees will be required to participate with the Southwest Utah Public Health Department in its role as an essential community resource. This may require working a non-traditional work schedule or working outside normal assigned duties during the incident and/or emergency.
