Summary

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) sponsored Collaborative Quality Initiatives (CQI) are statewide quality improvement programs whose goals are to improve quality, safety, and clinical outcomes for specific healthcare procedures or medical conditions across the state of Michigan (https://www.valuepartnerships.com/programs/collaborative-quality-initiatives/). Each CQI is organized and facilitated by a Coordinating Center, led by Program Directors and Co-directors, and a Program Manager. Michigan Medicine is home to the coordinating centers for 20 of the current CQIs.

The Michigan Social Health Interventions to Eliminate Disparities (MSHIELD) is a CQI focused on addressing health equity as a key component of quality improvement in health care (www.michiganshield.org). MSHIELDs mission is to empower CQIs to lead the future of quality improvement which achieves whole health for all people by integrating social care and clinical care, using data to drive health equity, and fostering a culture of anti-racism.

The Health Equity Data Analyst will support MSHIELD by providing data management and analysis of quantitative data from multiple sources, including national and state-based surveys, electronic health records, claims data, and social needs screening data from health care providers and community organizations. Specifically, the position involves providing independent and collaborative statistical support including: 1) compiling and maintaining a geographic-based dataset of social determinant of health (SDOH) data for Michigan for CQIs; 2) developing and testing algorithms to predict social needs and health outcomes for patients in the CQIs; 3) learning and applying equitable and anti-racist methodologies in the measurement of health outcomes; 4) creating dashboards and metrics for measuring health equity outcomes. The person in this position will also participate in anti-racism learning with the MSHIELD team and will help translate that learning to the practice of health analytics.

MSHIELD models our core value of anti-racism within our team and internal processes, and engages the entire Collaborative Quality Initiative (CQI) portfolio in combating all forms of oppression, driving a culture of equity, and upholding anti-racist principles and practices. We believe diversity of people and perspectives enriches our group and the work we accomplish together as we strive toward our vision of data-driven, community-partnered, equity-centered quality improvement. As part of this commitment, we encourage applicants from all groups to apply for this position, particularly those who have historically been less represented in academic institutions.
