For the purposes of this search, AI/ML includes machine learning, artificial intelligence, and technologies where machine learning could be applied to high volume or technical data (i.e., digital interventions, mobile health, robotics, simulation and virtual reality, and wearable technology). University of Illinois College of Medicine faculty, staff, and students have a long-standing and shared interest in reducing health disparities and promoting health equity. In the next phase of our institution's evolution, we seek to bring the power of AI/ML to bear on questions that will promote health equity.

Duties & Responsibilities

The AI.Health4All Center for Health Equity using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (https://medicine.uic.edu/com-research/aihealth4all/) has been established the College of Medicine to support research, training, education, and innovation at the intersection of health equity and advanced technology. The mission of AI.Health4All is to use innovative technologies (or machine learning and artificial intelligence) and community partnership to promote health equity and improve health care services for diverse, underserved, and minority populations through clinical research and translational medicine.
The College of Medicine currently hosts active AI/ML research programs in several areas including neurology, ophthalmology, psychiatry, and robotic surgery. We seek to expand on these successful programs to build a larger ecosystem of research and interventions that foster a dynamic environment to make progress on many fronts in health care and particularly those that address health disparities and structural racism.
As part of this endeavor, the College of Medicine is soliciting applications for faculty positions in a broad hiring process. Both individual and team (existing collaborative groups of scientists and clinician-scientists) applications will be considered. Rank will be commensurate with experience. Applicants may range from early career investigators to senior faculty, and start-up resources are available to support investigators. It is expected that faculty will develop federal and/or industry funded research portfolios either independently or as collaborative teams.
An important overarching goal at UIC is to attract world-class faculty to enrich the educational experience of our bright and motivated students, and trainees and provide high quality care to our diverse and vulnerable patient populations. UIC is dedicated to the goal of building a culturally diverse faculty committed to teaching and working in a multicultural environment, and strongly encourages applications from women and minorities, and those with a passion for social justice and serving the underserved.
