Role Synopsis

The North America Terminals & Pipelines (T&P) Occupational Health Advisor supports delivery of legal and regulatory compliance, medical case management, injury and illness prevention, health and wellness promotion, and workplace hazard reduction at T&P assets throughout the US Midwest and Pacific Northwest.  The role also provides occupational health support for drills and emergency response efforts, health related training, and drives continuous improvement in HSE. 

The intent of this role is to:

  • Provide technical occupational health expertise to entity and community stakeholders to meet BP’s Operating Management System (OMS) and regulatory obligations
  • Support the HSE&C manager in the delivery of occupational health programs, including workplace health and wellbeing promotion

Key Accountabilities

Advising Terminals & Pipelines on continuous improvement of HSE&C performance:

  • Collate and disseminate management information on the health status of the workforce and utilization of services
  • Support management of fitness for task through health risk management programs, including:
    • Health surveillance
    • Drug and alcohol programs
    • Ergonomics
    • Fatigue management
    • Travel health
    • Infection control and disease prevention
    • Emergency medical services
  • Develop / improve local occupational health procedures, work instructions, and training for US Terminals & Pipelines.
  • Support management of ill health through disability and case management programs and advise People and Culture (P&C) leads and line managers on sickness absence, rehabilitation, and return-to-work processes.
  • Provide consultancy for potential occupational illnesses and injuries, including appropriate monitoring and reporting.
  • Support business objectives and cost management strategies for efficient use of health resources and services.
  • Provide health expertise to functional groups including P&C, Legal, Procurement, HSE, Emergency Response, and Leadership.
  • Promote workplace health and wellbeing and provide strategic input to wellness programs.
  • Provide limited occupational health support, as appropriate, to BP businesses in the region lacking internal health support.
  • Conduct site occupational health visits and verification activities, including assessment of medical confidentiality and records management in line with regulatory, BP, and professional requirements
  • Provide, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate risk-based occupational health programs to meet OMS and regulatory requirements
  • Establish, manage, monitor, and evaluate occupational health service contracts in line with company procurement standards and Health Hub lead input.
  • Compile correspondence and reports for managers, external agencies, and external health programs
  • Provide reporting of statistical data and health metrics in conjunction with Health Hub lead
  • Enable line capability in identifying health risks and developing programs, facilities, and systems to minimize risk
  • Facilitate health risk assessments for projects

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) (or equivalent qualified occupational health professional)
  • Holds or working toward recognized occupational health certification (e.g., COHN, COHN-S)

Essential Experience and Job Requirements

  • Experience in medical case management, community health, ambulatory care, critical care, and/or emergency nursing
  • Confirmed experience of 4 years in medical-surgical nursing
  • At least two years of experience in occupational health (preferred)
  • Ability to be on call as required
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to build effective working relationships
  • Must meet required health and employment screening requirements

Desirable Criteria and Qualifications

  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN)
  • Certified Case Manager (CCM)

How much do we pay (Base)? (109,000.00  ​- 203,000.00  ​USD) *Note that the pay range listed for this position is a genuinely expected and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting. 
 
This position is eligible for US Benefits – Core. This position offers paid vacation depending on your years of relevant industry experience and will range from 120 – 240 hours  of vacation per year for full time employees (60 - 240 hours of vacation per year for part time employees).
