Health Technician

The mission of The Vanguard School is to help guide students in development of their character and academic potential through academically rigorous, content-rich educational programs.

General Purpose:  Under the direct supervision of the school nurse, the health technician assists with meeting the health needs and concerns of the K-12 student population.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides appropriate emergency assessment/management/care of illness/injury/mental health to students and staff in accordance with school/district policies and procedures, and as directed by the registered nurse.


• Administers medications to students as delegated by the registered nurse to include various rescue medications.


• Maintains confidentiality of information learned regarding student and their families.


• Notifies the school nurse and building principal(s) of serious incidents, significant health problems, and possible child abuse.


• Complies with mandatory reporting procedures.


• Exhibits knowledge of job limitation and accepts supervision.


• Maintains electronic health files on each student and monitors medical orders and individual student health care plans.


• Completes accident reports and head injury reports.


• Maintains inventory of health room supplies and notifies school nurse as needed.


• Assists school nurse with coordinating student medication/healthcare plans for field trips and/or school sponsored activities.


• Perform clerical duties such as inputting medical information and immunization records.


• Assist in scheduling and performing annual vision and hearing screenings.


• Assists in back to school and enrollment activities as needed.


• Maintains a clean orderly health office.


• Performs all other related duties as assigned.


• Flexibility to assist the front office and administration as needed.
  

Minimum Requirements:  

• 
  High school diploma or equivalent.


• 
  Basic math, accounting, verbal, and written communication skills.


• 
  Ability to understand and comply with HIPPA/FERPA requirements under the law.


• 
  Customer service skills.


• 
  Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.


• 
  Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks with frequent interruptions.

Experience: 

No experience required; experience in childcare or medical background preferred. Basic CPR and First-Aid will be required within 2months (Classes bi-monthly at School). CNAs, LPNs, RNs, and those with more experience are preferred.

Salary Range:

• $18.00 to 20.00 per hour / commensurate with experience and credentials
